Welcome to this week’s version of What Would You Do Wednesday, where you are asked a question and debate among yourselves what the answer is. Unfortunately, the only prize you will receive will be the most Twitter mentions.
This week’s WWYDW revolves around the World Cup of Hockey.
The World Cup of Hockey is taking place in Toronto from September 17 to October 1. Players from all over the world are participating, including non-NHL players.
One of the huge impacts on NHL teams is their star players being away for training camp and the preseason. Will players be better prepared to start the season? Or, will there be an adjustment period for teams who have multiple players in the World Cup?
For example, there are a few Jets in the World Cup of Hockey.
Team USA:
Dustin Byfuglien
Blake Wheeler
Team Czech Republic:
Ondrej Pavelec
Under 24 Team:
Connor Hellebuyck
Mark Scheifele
Jacob Trouba
Team Finland:
Patrik Laine
The World Cup of Hockey promises to be an exciting event. The my pick, the Under 24 team, not only has the most Jets on the team, but features players like Connor McDavid, Jach Eichel and Auston Matthews.
However, across the board there have been some peculiar omissions from rosters and selections by the GMs of the teams. I am immediately thinking of Justin Abdelkader being included on team USA and Phil Kessel being omitted. As well, PK Subban or Kris Letang were not selected by team Canada.
Will the World Cup have a negative impact on a team? We will find out.
What Would You Do Jets Nation?
Are there other players who are not playing in the World Cup that you think should be included on the rosters?
Bonus Question:
Who do you think will win the World Cup of Hockey?
