Jets Nation Recap: Jets Take Flight Over the Wild

The Winnipeg Jets
hoped to take flight again after a tumultuous span that has seen them
go (insert record) and lose goaltender Ondrej Pavelec to injury. Luckily some guy named Connor Hellebuyck was up to the task and led the Jets to a 3-1 victory over the Wild.

Lets take a look at
the game.

The Jets started the
game the “right way” as hockey players say it. They played hard,
were in on the forecheck and got shots on net.
Connor Hellebuyck
played well for his first NHL start, putting some more wood on the
eventual goalie controversy fire. With Pavelec out for a while yet,
hopefully we will see more of the rookie goalie.
Mathieu Perreault
was up to his devious ways again. He scored the first goal of the
game to put the Jets up 1-0 over the Wild. He was also making shifty
plays, one being at the end of the second period where he passed the
puck to Scheifele from his stomach who would set up Drew Stafford for
a scoring chance.
The third period saw
the Jets finally put everything together. Despite having an own goal
scored by Mark Stuart, the Jets were a lot better in their own end.
There is still some cleaning up to do, but if the Jets continue to
play like this going forward, then things are looking up for
Winnipeg.
A lot of people are
noticing some pro Thorburn and Stuart propaganda. Maybe the team is
trying to win some fans over, or maybe the team is trying to up some
trade value.
Shoutout to Connor
Hellebuyck on his first career NHL win.

THREE KEYS
Hellebuyck Time: The
Jets have a unique opportunity in fornt of them, in terms of their
goaltending situation. When Ondrej Pavelec went down with an injury,
22 year old Connor Hellebuyck was called up from the Manitoba Moose
to back up Michael Hutchinson. Hellebuyck’s start against the Wild
was his first NHL start and he was up for the challenge, collecting
his first NHL win.
Playing Defence
Helps:
Tonight’s game was not perfect, case in point Mark Stuart
deflecting the puck into his own net, but the Jets played much better
in their own end and it showed. They were able to win battles, make
smarter passes in their own end, and rotate when appropriate.
Dr. Ehvil: Nik
Ehlers scored, but what was more impressive was his possession. He
has been playing on a line with Alex Burmistrov and Chris Thorburn as
of late. Burmistrov is usually pretty good possession wise, but
Thorburn is like a sack of bricks. Ehlers is good and he showed it
tonight.
