Much like our list of the top ten Winnipeg Jets as of this very moment where six of us unanimously agreed that Mark Scheifele was number one, our first ever site voted upon Winnipeg Jets prospect rankings also saw an overwhelming consensus at the top spot.
20 year old Finnish forward Kristian Vesalainen received six first place votes out of six to earn a perfect score and be far and away JetsNation’s pick as the top prospect for the Winnipeg Jets in 2019. Defenseman and fellow countryman Sami Niku placed second while forward Mason Appleton finished third.
While two of the top three spots on our ranking were claimed by forwards, six of the ten are defensemen which shouldn’t be a surprise given how much of a focus it’s been by the Jets in recent drafts.

JetsNation’s 2019 Prospect Rankings

1 – Kristian Vesalainen (Left Wing)
2 – Sami Niku (Defense)
3 – Mason Appleton (Right Wing)
4 – Dylan Samberg (Defense)
5 – Ville Heinola (Defense)
6 – David Gustafsson (Center)
7 – Mikhail Berdin (Goaltender)
8 – Logan Stanley(Defense)
9 – Declan Chisholm (Defense)
10 – Leon Gawanke (Defense)

Six JetsNation writers voted on the top prospect list, ranking each prospect one through ten and then points being awarded for each placement given. The only criteria being that the player had to be under the age of 25, and that he have played less 50 career NHL games played. So even though Vesalainen had five games played with the Jets and a ton of pro experience over in Europe while Niku has seen 31 career games with the Jets – 30 of those having taken place this past season – we didn’t consider them to be “graduated” from the category of prospect just yet, although their near NHL status is testament to their placing at one and two on this list.
As the week goes on, we’ll have profiles on each of our top ten prospects. In the meantime, let us know in the comments or on our Twitter or Facebook if you agree or disagree with our rankings and who would make up your top ten.
