During the playoffs and really all through his first two seasons as an NHLer, Patrik Laine has displayed a calm, almost unsettling tranquil mood in pretty much any situation no matter how stressful it may be. He’s simply as cool as the other side of the pillow and it doesn’t matter if he’s laying back in bed at 3 AM Finnish time to answer some pre-draft questions from Sportsnet via FaceTime, or if he suffers a serious cut on the chin from an errant high stick and his biggest concern is to save his fantastic Mennonite-like beard.
Recently it would seem his tranquil mood and thoughtfulness helped brighten the day of passengers who were shaken up by a violent incident on a flight to Helsinki, Finland.
As reported by Finnish news site Ilta-Sanomat, on a flight headed to Finland that Laine was on, there was a disturbance with a drunken and violent individual that forced an emergency landing in Paris, France. After French police forcibly removed the individual, a group of kids on the flight were visibly shaken by the incident until Patrik took it upon himself to visit with the children, sign autographs and take selfies to turn a miserable situation into a memorable flight.
Passengers noted Laine didn’t seem to be too bothered by the events that seemed to lead up to an unexpected stopover in Paris, so when he noticed one of the kids wearing a bright yellow Nashville Predators hat, his response was predictably as cool as pretty much everything else he’s done.
“Our son had a Nashville Predators cap, and Laine snickered .. that “is the wrong (team) cap”.”
The legend of Laine continues to grow. Sign that kid for ALL the money already!
