In the final week before the All-Star break, the Jets embark on a California road trip which begins in San Jose. This is the third and final meeting between these two teams, both coming off of wins on Sunday. Who takes game 3? I guess we’ll find out.

Recently for the Jets…

The Jets are coming off a 1-0 win against the Canucks, and are currently riding a 2 game win-streak since coming off of the bye week. Now, in the last stretch of games before this weekend’s all star game, the Jets swing down to California for a two game trip. It’s been an interesting stretch for the Jets, missing both Mark Scheifele and Adam Lowry. Aside from dropping the 2 games in Chicago and Minnesota, the Jets have hung in there, going 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.

Recently for the Sharks…

The Sharks are also currently on a 2-game win-streak of their own, most recently beating the division rival Anaheim Ducks 6-2 on Sunday. Their last ten has been filled with a lot of extra hockey, finishing 4 games in OT or Shootout. Overall, they have gone 6-2-2. Aside from team success, “Jumbo” Joe Thornton continued to add to his legend, passing Bryan Trottier in career points, picking up his 1,426th point. Next up on that list? Jet Fan favourite, Teemu Selanne with 1,457. I must say, Thornton is doing pretty well for a guy left off of the NHL’s Top 100 list.

Recently between both teams…

The season series has been split so far, with the Sharks taking game one in San Jose 4-0 on November 25th, and the Jets winning the game 2 in Winnipeg 4-1 on January 7th. This is the first game since the online storm of the Sharks calling Winnipeg “cold and dark”, so I’m sure news outlets will be eating this one up for the final time this season.

Gameday Prediction

Both of these teams can find strokes of brilliance when it comes to scoring goals, and the Sharks showed that in their last game after putting up 6 on Anaheim. While the Jets haven’t been putting up the goals in the last few games, they’re finding ways to win games defensively. I’m going to say the scoring starts to return for us, while our defense holds up against a somewhat potent offense. Jets win this one 4-2.
