The Winnipeg Jets have acquired center Paul Stastny from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a 2018 first round pick, Erik Foley, and a 2020 conditional fourth-round pick. The Blues have also retained 50% of Stastny’s remaining $7 million salary, which expires on July 1st when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Stastny has played all 63 games for the Blues, recording 40 points (12 goals, 28 assists). A veteran of 805 NHL games, he brings some experience to bolster an already deep forward core. Stastny also has 35 points in 55 career playoff games. Some playoff experience is something that is hard to find on this roster, and this move adds exactly that.
It is also worth noting that Kevin Cheveldayoff attempted to sign Stastny back in the summer of 2014, but was beaten out by the Blues.
Note: Stastny had to waive his full No-Trade-Clause to approve a trade to Winnipeg.
