JN Flight Plan: Winnipeg And Calgary Meet In Regina For 2019 Heritage Classic
Let’s take it outside shall we?
For the first time ever the NHL will play an outdoor game at a neutral site, non NHL city as the @Calgary Flames and @Winnipeg Jets will meet halfway in Regina, Saskatchewan and play outdoors in the 2019 Heritage Classic at Mosaic Stadium.
This is the second Heritage Classic for both teams. The Flames shutout the @Montreal Canadiens back in 2011 while the Jets were shutout by the Edmonton Oilers in 2016.

Last Flames Game
It wasn’t pretty by any means, especially with a crazy third period that saw three goals scored from each team, but the @Calgary Flames outlasted the @Florida Panthers 6-5 in a shootout vidtory thanks to a two goal night from Matthew Tkachuk.

Fun Flames Facts…
- The Flames will don their 1989 white throwback heritage jerseys for tonight’s spectacle, the same style jersey the Flames wore when they won the Stanley Cup in 1989.
- The Flames 2-1-0 record against the Jets last season was thanks in part to @Johnny Gaudreau who notched four goals and one assist for five points in three games against the Jets, as well as David Rittich who went 2-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and a .947 Sv% against Winnipeg.
- Calgary traded @James Neal to the @Edmonton Oilers for @Milan Lucic and a conditional draft pick this past summer. Neal has nine goals in 11 games with the Oilers. Lucic doesn’t have any goals in 12 games with the Flames, but he does have 26 penalty minutes.
What FlamesNation Is Saying…
At the end of the night, it’s appropriate that this came down to a coin flip. The Flames look solid so much of the time, but still seem to be holding themselves back. That’s two games in a row now where they’ve let in five goals. This still feels like preseason hockey, and that has to stop.
Last Jets Game
The @Los Angeles Kings jumped all over an under-performing almost lazy Winnipeg Jets club and if not for the work of Connor Hellebuyck could have buried the Jets early in the game. As it was, the Jets hung around and made things interesting in the later-half of the game but couldn’t get the better of LA as they lost 3-2.

Fun Jets Facts…
- Tonight’s game is the fourth neutral site regular season game for the Jets in franchise history. The Jets lost 3-0 to the Edmonton Oilers at IG Field in Winnipeg at the 2016 NHL Heritage Classic in 2016 and last season, the Jets split a pair of games against the Florida Panthers at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland.
- After playing 11 games in 20 days to start the season, tonight is the first of two games the Jets play during the course of nine days.
- Despite the Jets going 1-3-0, Connor Hellebuyck has a 2.26 goals-against average and .930 save percentage in his past four games. Hellebuyck has faced at least 35 shots in four of his eight starts this season.
- @Nikolaj Ehlers was in on both of Winnipeg’s goals on Tuesday with a goal and an assist for his third multi-point game of the season. He had eight multi-point games last season.
- MILESTONES WATCH: Center @Mathieu Perreault remains just one point away for 200 total in his career. Laine also enters this game seeking his 200th career point, as the Jets’ winger is just four points away from reaching that milestone.
What We’re Saying…
So far this season, the Jets power play has performed inconsistently through their eleven games played. Entering this game, the Jets own a 15.8% conversion rate with their power-play unit, which ranks ninth-worst in the league. The Flames also come into this game with the third-best success rate on the penalty kill (88.9%).
