JGD 12: Jets roll into Montreal

Cam Farquharson
The Winnipeg Jets
come into Montreal playing their second game of a back-to-back. The
Canadiens are humming and have lost only 2 games on the season.
The
Jets will be ready as much as possible given the situation; the night before they played a fairly
easy game against the struggling Blue Jackets.
Will they be ready
for the speed of the Canadiens? We will see.
The big news is not
the Canadiens’ 9 game win streak to start the season. It is the Dutch
Gretzky, also known as Dale Weise, scored his first career hat trick
in his last game and is looking poised to score more.
In all seriousness, the Canadiens have been playing well offensively. They come
into today’s game averaging over four goals a game.
Thomas Plekanec
leads the way for the Canadiens, with 12 points to start the season.
Andrei Markov, Max Pacioretty and PK Subban are all tied for second
on the Canadiens for points scored with 11 points each.
The Jets fortunately will not have to solve the demi-god that is Carey Price, who started the 2015-16 season right where he left off in his Vezina year. The Habs starter will be out with injury. Price had a Goals Against Average of
2.01, a save percentage of 0.936, and seven wins. They will have to deal
with Montreal’s backup, Mike Condon, who has been playing as well as anyone could.
The Jets will look to counter
with Michael Hutchinson, who has also played very well to start the
2015-16 season. Hutch has 4 wins, no losses, a Goals Against Average
of 1.75, and a save percentage of .949.
This game should be
really exciting to watch. Montreal is known for its speed and
Winnipeg is a really fast team as well. Hopefully, the coaches will
allow both teams to play to full throttle.

WINNIPEG JETS (7-3-1)

Forwards

Nic Petan is
expected to draw back in for Anthony Peluso and Petan’s speed will be
needed to match the Canadien’s speed.

WINNIPEG JETS (10-2-1)

Forwards

This morning we
learned that all star Carey Price would be out a week with an injury.
The next few games will be interesting for Montreal, depending on how their back-up and call-up goalies carry the starting load.
PREDICTIONS
Gameday Prediction:
The Jets will take advantage of Carey Price being out and win 3-1.
Obvious Prediction:
Nik Ehlers will continue to look like a super human out on the ice,
unable to be contained by Montreal.
Not So Obvious:
Prediction: Montreal’s lone goal will be scored off of Dale Weise’s
nose.
