It’s the dog days of summer and slowly but surely we’re starting to get little bits and pieces of news and goings on with various players as they start ramping up for another season of hockey. Tuesday in particular saw a few noteworthy happenings related to the Winnipeg Jets but nothing major which is why we’ll throw them all together here in one easy to digest group…
Before we start, just a reminder JetsNation is still on the lookout for contributors for this upcoming season!

JOMO DEAL IS CLOSE

Josh Morrisey was spotted in a Jets practice uni and getting in some work with Mark Scheifele on Tuesday.
It just so happened his appearance in Winnipeg came with an interesting amount of days left until regular season hockey…
196 replies and while I didn’t go through all of them, I am willing to bet 190 of them were asking the Jets to get a deal done with him.
On that new contract front, while Josh didn’t talk a whole lot, he did mention that progress has been made between him and the club in terms of a new deal and that we shouldn’t have a Jacob Trouba situation going into training camp.
So it would seem everyone in Jets land can breathe easy and not stress over Morrissey and instead stress out over the second line center situation, when the Jets might reveal a third jersey, what might happen to Trouba, what might happen with Wheeler, what the Jets will do for a backup goalie, if Kevin Cheveldayoff left the stove on in his cabin…

SCHEIF’S FIVE (OR SIX)

As noted, Morrissey was on the ice with Mark Scheifele and after that skate, Mark talked with TSN Radio 1050 on a few different topics including his golf outing last weekend – which we will talk about later today – and who was in his top five list of best players in the NHL. Mark gave his five, although he cheated a bit with a tie for third…

It’s not much of a surprise to see Mark list a pair of good, tough defensemen as his tie for third place on the list. Victor Hedman is the reigning, defending, undisputed James Norris Memorial Trophy Winner (ok, it’s probably a little disputed) and Josi is probably the best all-around defender on the Nashville Predators. In 21 career games against the Jets, Josi has two goals and 19 points and always seems to give Jets forwards all sorts of issues when they meet up.

KERDILES SIGNS

The Jets did at least get one deal done on Tuesday, signing forward Nic kerdiles to a one year, two way deal.
Kerdiles was the player the Jets received from the Anaheim Ducks on July 1, when they traded Chase De Leo in what was essentially a swap of AHL bound forwards.
The 2012 second round pick (36 overall) of the Ducks played in 49 games with the San Diego Gulls last season, picking up 15 goals and 34 points total. He’s also played in more NHL playoff games than regular season games as he dressed for four games in the 2017 playoffs for Anaheim as opposed to the three total regular season games he’s played in over the last two seasons for the Ducks organization.

FORMER JET ON THE MOVE AGAIN

And in “oh so that’s where he is now” news, former Jets fisticuffs specialist Anthony Peluso is going to try and punch his way into the Calgary Flames lineup.
