Jets prospects at WJC: Spacek scores to lift Czech over Finland

Lets take a look at how the Jets prospects performed on day one of the World Junior tournament. 

Roslovic and Foley and the rest of Team USA rousted Latvia by a score of 6-1. In a predictable outcome, USA shined against Latvia, who hasn’t participated in the World Junior tournament since 2013. Roslovic centred the teams third line alongside Foley and Leafs prospect Jeremy Bracco. 

It’s hard to really judge someones performance in such a lopsided and meaningless game. But as the tournament goes on, we could see Jack Roslovic, the Manitoba Moose’s leading scorer, evolve in to one of the driving forces for USA.

Foley may serve a different purpose. The hard-hitting gritty winger plays a north-south game that could serve well in a shut-down role when USA gets in to some tougher matchups as the tournament goes on. 

Michael Spacek started out this years World Junior tournament with a bang. With 1:18 remaining, Spacek scored to lift the Czech’s past the tournaments defending champions, Finland. 

Spacek’s efforts in the Czech’s upset over Finland were duly noted and expected. Spacek, the Jets fourth round pick in 2015, leads the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels with 42 points in 30 games. Somewhat of a forgotten commodity, Jets fans will be well acquainted with Spacek before the tournament ends. 

This afternoon, Luke Green, the Jets 3rd round pick in 2016, was traded from the Saint John Sea Dogs to the Sherbrooke Pheonix. The trade doesn’t come as a total surprise as Green found himself buried down St John’s depth chart and struggling to perform in odd circumstances. 

Here’s hoping a change of scenery can jumpstart Green’s game.
