After brief pit-stops with the Arizona Coyotes and Detroit Red Wings in the first half of this season, 24-year-old goaltender Eric Comrie is returning to Winnipeg after the Jets claimed him off of waivers on Thursday morning.

Comrie, who the Jets drafted in the second round of the 2013 draft, has spent the vast majority of his professional career in Winnipeg. From the 2015-2016 season up until this past spring, Comrie was a staple between the Manitoba Moose’s net. In four AHL seasons with the Moose, Comrie accumulated a .912 save percentage and was recognized for his efforts on, and off, the ice. During the 2015-2016 season, Comrie was named to the AHL all-star game and won the Moose’s three stars award at the conclusion of the regular season. The following year, the 2016-2017 season, Comrie won the Moose’s community service award. Comrie suited up for five NHL games during his tenure with the Jets organization.

On December 10th, Comrie faced off against the Jets at Bell MTS Place as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. True North Sports and Entertainment gave Comrie a video tribute during a TV Timeout.

If the Jets wish to send Comrie to the AHL the club will have to send him through waivers. If the Detroit Red Wings, Comrie’s previous club, put in a claim on Comrie and are the only team to do so then the netminder can be sent directly to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
