Jets Prospect Update – January 19th

While many seem to be slowing down in the second half, Kyle Connor is bucking the trend and is one of  the hottest prospects in hockey right now. Check in on him and everyone else in this weeks Jets Prospects Update.

While it was looking like the moose were beginning to hit their stride a bit in December things have fallen back down to earth in a big way since. The Moose have only managed to out-shoot their opponents twice in the last 12 games and find themselves last in shots for per game and second to last in shots against per game.

Brenden Kichton, Chase De Leo, and the recently recalled J.C.Lipon have been pacing the team in scoring while Nic Petan continues to lead the team on a per game basis.

Eric Comrie continues to perform admirably behind a team that frequently leaves him out to dry.

After putting up two points per game in his play in December Brendan Lemieux has seen his pace fall off a little. He does however continue to put the puck at the net at an elite rate as his 4.83 shots per game comes in at second in the OHL.

Matteo Gennaro looks to be continuing his trend of strong second halves in the WHL as he’s picked up 12 points in his last 10 games played. 

Following a strong December that saw him putting up numbers more in line with what he had produced last year, Jansen Harkins has seen his production fall off a bit managing only three points through eight games in the first half of January.

After being a stand out for team Czech Republic at the WJC’s, Michael Spacek returned to a very different looking Red Deer Rebels team. Several additions had been made in advance of the Rebels Memorial Cup run and the team now finds itself loaded with offensive talent. Due to this Spacek has seen his spot in the lineup bounce around a bit but he’s continued to bring his strong offensive game and maintained his point per game pace.

Kyle Connor caught fire in December and is showing no signs of slowing down yet with 11 points in four games so far in January. Connor’s recent streak has him tied for the league lead in goals and only two points behind the league point leader in one less game played. While it’s worth noting A) that Connor’s team leads the NCAA in goals per game by a pretty good margin and B) that eight of his last ten games have been against weaker Big 10 competition, Connor’s points per game at this point is hugely impressive and ranks him up with Jack Eichel for best PPG by a U20 player in the last decade.

Jack Roslovic and Mason Appleton find themselves in similar positions at this point in the season. After strong starts they’ve seen their numbers fall off here recently but despite that still lead their respective teams in points. 

Erik Foley picked up his first multi-point NCAA game here in January and has shown some stronger play of late with four points in his last five games.

After successful World Junior tournaments that saw them both play key roles on the top two teams, Sami Niku and Pavel Kraskovsky have both returned to their regular roles in league play. Neither have put up any points in January.
