It was gritty, a little dull at times, featured some solid goaltending and a lot of board play. It was the type of road game we haven’t seen the Jets put together in a long, long time. They managed to keep the Bell Centre crowd relatively quiet, and left Montreal with an all-important two points.

For the most part, the Jets did a pretty good job at keeping Montreal to the outsides, in their own end, and prevented a lot of shots from occurring. A few glaring turnovers and defensive miscues led to the majority of Montreal’s chances in this game, and when they happened Al Montoya was there for all but one. Not to mention he willingly went after Gallagher and gave him a couple swift elbows near the end of the game. I enjoyed that. Screw you Gallagher.

I honestly thought Mark Stuart had one heck of a game in Montreal. Trouba has made a few mistakes recently in his attempts to increase his offensive output, and for the most part he has been there to bail the kid out. He also was quite engaged with Gallagher throughout the game, and although he slightly lost his focus in the second period during a battle, he didn’t let anything come easy. If Mark Stuart can keep up his better defensive play for a while, it not only helps the Jets on the ice, but increases his trade value. That’s a pretty big if though…

The “Thorburn Effect” is in full swing on Scheifele and Wheeler. The two of them just can’t keep doing it all alone. They need someone who can help them out without destroying the flow of their game. Thorburn is not that guy.

I thought Ladd, Little and Frolik had pretty good games, despite finishing with minimal offensive opportunities. As they have been able to accomplish quite regularly as of late, they kept Montreal out of the offensive end by controlling the puck. It’s been a much-welcomed trend.

Well, at least the fourth line wasn’t dismantled?

Overall, I saw this as a pretty effective road game. It wasn’t very exciting to watch outside of the rough stuff, and they managed to keep a usually loud Montreal crowd pretty darn quiet. It was a good win that I thought the Jets deserved.

How excellent was it to watch Gallagher get manhandled late in the third, right in front of a ref, without a penalty being called? If it was almost any other Hab the Jets would have likely been down a man to end the game but hey, take what you can get, right?
