Winnipeg Jets win second place in draft lottery

7 years agoWhile the Winnipeg Jets were not able to win the coveted first overall pick, the lottery sent the Jets forward and pushed the team into the top three with the second overall selection for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
While the Jets would have enjoyed and could have used a potential franchise centre like Auston Matthews, the Jets will still have the opportunity to add to their already heavily stocked and highly coveted prospect cupboard with another top-ten selection, like Patrik Laine.
The Jets only had a 23.5 per cent chance to move up in the entry draft, a 17.5 per cent chance to stay put, and the rest in moving back.
On June 24th in Buffalo New York, the Winnipeg Jets will be given the opportunity to take the second pick and take home the second best player available this year.
The next best player in the draft is Patrik Laine. While Laine may be in the same tier of players, wingers are often less coveted than centres, ceteris paribus. That said, Laine is a physical beast that any team would love to have in their organization. At 6’4 and over 200 lbs, Laine already possess a NHL calibre body and is a natural goal scorer. He generates a ton of shot volume and in addition has a lethal shot.
