As expected, the Winnipeg Jets go with a 7-3-1 protection system, made possible by the previous waiving of his NMC by Tobias Enstrom.
The protected list is as follows:
Forwards: Joel Armia, Andrew Copp, Bryan Little, Adam Lowry, Mathieu Perreault, Mark Scheifele, Blake Wheeler
Defensemen: Dustin Byfuglien, Tyler Myers, Jacob Trouba
Goaltender: Connor Hellebuyck

No real surprises in the Jets protected list as we kind of figured Marko Dano was due to be left unprotected after signing a one year deal. The signing made it so that Dano and Shawn Matthias filled the NHL requirement that two forwards that are under contract for the 2017-18 season be left exposed on the Jets list.
The rest of the Jets “unprotected list” is as follows:
Forwards: Marko Dano, Quinton Howden, Scott Kosmachuk, Tomas Kubalik, JC Lipon, Shawn Matthias, Ryan Olsen, Anthony Peluso, Chris Thorburn
Defensemen: Ben Chiarot, Toby Enstrom, Brenden Kichton, Julian Melchiori, Paul Postma, Brian Strait, Mark Stuart
Goaltenders: Michael Hutchinson, Ondrej Pavelec
Dano, Chiarot, Enstrom, Stuart and Hutchinson are all players that saw regular time with the NHL club this past season, but you have to figure the odds-on favorite to be picked up by Vegas in the Expansion Draft would be 22 year old Marko Dano who has fantastic potential to be a top six forward.
Enstrom is also a strong candidate to be picked, although in that case it may be more of an instance where Vegas is looking to trade or “flip” him to a third NHL club that has more use for a 32 year old veteran blue-liner. The question of Enstrom’s NMC coming back into play if the Golden Knights do select him are uncertain and there may also as well be an agreement between the Jets and Knights for the expansion club to not pick Tobias.
