Trade-A-Palooza 2019: Let’s Get Weird

Our last day of this week’s Trade-A-Palooza features all sorts of randomness. The kind of random ‘out there’ suggestions that you’d see on a message board or a Reddit forum. Admittedly some of the trades we got leading up to this seemed like they were tried out on NHL 19 before they were submitted to us, but we did ask for ridiculous deals as well as some of your more serious suggestions.

Time to enter a place where no trade is taboo except for Nikita Zaitsev for Patrik Laine deals… Seriously Leafs fans, stop it. We’re not going to get that ridiculous.

It’s time to have names randomly thrown up against a wall to see what sticks, only to find out that names aren’t sticky and you can’t actually throw them. It’s time to open up…

Josh: 0/10 – I hope this is a joke, absolutely ridiculous.

Cassie: 0/10 – How about no?

Zee: 0/10 – Can you imagine the utter chaos that would descend on Portage & Main if this actually happened?

Sean: 6/10 – No, just no….

Kyle: 0/10 for Laine, 3/10 for Trouba – He has to get traded eventually, unless he signs long term. Getting a decent return will be important in the next year or two.

Sean S: 0/10 – Well, well, well. This sounds like someone I know on Reddit.com/r/WinnipegJets… That’s gonna be a no from me dog.

Art: 10/10 – I applaud you for your brilliance and your creative imagination. Also I feel like this deal was targeted at me a bit for being a Dylan Larkin fan as well as being an Ekblad fan although that crush I keep a little more hidden. 0/10 chance this ever happens, but 20/10 for doing something I’d pull off out of boredom in the fifth year of my Jets franchise in NHL 19.

Josh: 10/10 – Who doesn’t make this deal?

Cassie: 10/10 – Yes please!

Zee: 10/10 – Oh the things I’d give up to have Hnidy back home!

Sean: No chance Vegas bites, might get a loonie for Sawyer, at best

Eric M: 11/10 – Give me Beyak and two former Thrashers in Ferraro and Hnidy on the call. This is perfect.

Kyle: 8/10 – I don’t hate Sawyer as much as other people, but Hnidy was solid. Nobody can compete with Ferraro though, it’s always great when he’s between the benches.

Sean S: 8.5/10 – I like Saywer… But the Sheriff will always be in my heart. 10/10, would trade.

Art: 10/10 – Sorry Kevin… If it’s any consolation, Hnidy is one of the best in the entire league and I’d make that deal for a lot of teams.

Josh: 0/10 – No thank you. Way too much salary and as much as I like JT, he’s not getting any younger and his production has already started to take a hit.

Cassie: 0/10 – You got to be kidding right?

Zee: 0/10 – Ummm… I have nothing to say about this other than naaaah!

Sean: 1/10 – I’ll give you a single point for the cute homecoming fantasy, but that is all this is, a fantasy.

Eric M: 0/10 – Nah dawg nah.

Kyle: 2/10 – Could Toews fit on the second line? It would be interesting to have Scheifele, Toews, Lowry, Little as the centre depth. Unfortunately Toews is starting to slow down and doesn’t have the value like he did a number of years ago.

Sean S: 1/10 – 10.5 million dollar cap hit for who would probably be a 2nd line centre for us, at best? JT is also on the downward swing of his career with his cap hit going til 2024. Especially considering how great Roslovic is doing with the team. Samberg looks promising and Poolman is going to be a battle with Niku for a roster spot next summer.

Art: 5/10 – Oh, it looks like you understand that Jonathan Towes was a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba. I don’t know why that fact doesn’t get played up more in games between the Jets and Blackhawks. You hardly ever hear about it. Anyway, if it was 2014 I’d be all over this deal. Not so much in 2019.

Josh: 1/10 – Lots to give up for an overpaid, under-producing 2nd liner, no thanks you.

Cassie: 3/10 – That’s a lot to give up for RNH.

Zee: 5/10 – Take Roslo out of this! Hmm.. actually I don’t hate this if we take Roslovic out of this… And Edmonton retains some of his salary.

Sean: 5 million dollars out of 10 – As in this would be way to expensive for not enough return. Jets cannot add cap.

Eric M: 2/10 – For bad cap ideas!

Kyle: 7/10 – Cap issues aside, the Nuge would likely fit well with some of the Jets young wingers.

Sean S: 5/10 – Leave Jack alone!! All things aside though… it’s a lot to give up for a big cap hit. RNH is good, but Roslovic will probably be a very similar player once he gets a bit older. Stanley I’m hesitant to give up too. He’s improved immensely over the past couple seasons with the Moose and he’s a force to be reckoned with on the Moose back end.

Art: 8/10 – Cap issues aside I’d be all over this if this is all it would take. If I was GM I’d get Nuge and then try to make it all work later, which is probably why I’m not a GM really. If nothing else, I’d do this deal just to see OilersNation implode.
