TNSE Does The Right Thing: Casual & Part Timers To Be Paid In Full

Sunday afternoon, in an announcement to their part time and casual staff, True North Sports and Entertainment announced that they will enact measures to look after it’s part-time and casual employees who have been affected by the shutdown and suspension of NHL and AHL games as well as concerts and shows due to the COVID-19 virus.

The Jets had four remaining home games in the schedule, all to take place before March 31st. The AHL’s Manitoba Moose had three home games remaining before that date, and three home games set for April. It doesn’t appear as though those will be covered under this plan.

But for the time being, this is good news and should help those who were depending on that income. At the very least this will assist them on the short term as they look for new work or other sources of income which is all most of us ever wanted four days ago when the league announced it’s suspension.

With the CDC announcing today that it’s recommending that no public gatherings of more than 50 people be held for at least the next eight weeks, it’s starting to look more and more likely that we won’t see a conclusion to the 2019-20 NHL season, which makes the timing of this announcement – even if it’s somewhat later than what we had hoped – very welcome.
