Thanks to their win over the Washington Capitals on Thursday night, we now know the Preds have the Central Division locked up while the Winnipeg Jets and Minnesota Wild are set to meet in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs starting next week.
We also now know that thanks to the jets win over Calgary along with the Vegas Golden Knights loss to the Edmonton Oilers, the Jets are locked in with the second best record in the Western Conference which won’t be that much of a big deal until you consider that in a potential third round match-up, the Jets would have home ice against whomever comes out of the Pacific Division bracket side of things. (Especially big if that West Final is against the Knights who have proven to be very strong at home this season)
With that, we’re going to say farewell to our peek at Vegas as it may be a while now until the Jets see them again.. If they do.
Meanwhile…
Dustin Brown scored four for the Kings five goals needed to beat the Wild in overtime. The win puts the Kings back into third in the Central division for now, with the Ducks still having a game in hand over LA.
And the Sharks hit the 100 point mark again with a 4-2 win over the Avalanche. Colorado and St. Louis seem to be content to try and give away the last playoff spot to the other team, but we are painfully close to the Blues and Avs will have a one game ‘winner take all’ blood feud on Saturday night to determine who gets the last spot and earns the right to play Nashville in the first round.
The only way that can be messed up is if the Blues actually beat Chicago tomorrow in regulation, then all the Blues would require is a win or an overtime loss as they’d hold on to the tie-breaker.
