Tanev And Jets Avoid Arbitration: Settle On One Year, $1.15 Million Dollar Deal

The Jets and forward Brandon Tanev were scheduled to have their arbitration hearing date on Wednesday July 25, but Sunday evening the two sides came to an agreement on a one year deal that will see the 26 year old get paid $1.15 million for the 2018-19 season. It marks a nice little raise from the $700,000 one year deal he signed with the team last summer.

Tanev joined the Jets back on March 30, 2016 when he signed as an un-drafted free agent.

Last season Tanev – best known for his role as a fourth line agitator – spent most of his time with the Jets NHL club as he played in 61 games, scoring eight goals and 18 points. Three of those goals came on a very memorable night March 27 against the Boston Bruins as he scored his first ever career hat trick.

He also played 23 games with the Manitoba Moose this past season scoring two goals and nine points.

In the playoffs with the Jets, he played in all 17 games and had four goals and six points.

With the Tanev signing along with the Jacoub Trouba decision earlier on Sunday, the Jets have just one more arbitration case left on the table, a possible July 30th meeting with Marko Dano. Beyond Dano, they still have two other big name restricted free agents that will factor into the Jets future that are still needing contracts: Tucker Poolman and Josh Morrissey.
