The Winnipeg Jets selected Mason Appleton at 168th overall in the fifth round.
Appleton is a 6’2 forward that played for the Tri-City Storm in the USHL. As someone who played his 18-year-old season last year, Appleton was an overage draft selection that went undrafted the previous season.
Check out some of Appleton’s highlights last season.
Appleton scored 12 goals and 28 assists in 49 games, making him the sixth highest scorer for the Tri-City Storm.
There are some concerns with drafting an overage player who didn’t even dominate a low quality of competition league in scoring, but Appleton does have some skills.
Appleton will also have plenty of time to develop, as he moves to the NCAA next year at Michigan State.
