Let’s Make a Jets Deal

This could be the deal that puts the Jets and Oilers as both legitimate contending teams. The Oilers have a log jam of left handed defensemen and someone will have to go soon in order for some of the younger players to breakout into the league; as well the Oilers have far to many right wingers and again someone needs to go. The Jets only have two legitimate right wingers where the guys who do fill those spots are centermen. The Jets are missing a legit 2 pairing left shot defensman. Someone is going to say Nathan Beaulieu is a fine 2nd pairing guy. But I’m more comfortable leaving him as a third pairing guy and leaving Sami Niku as a 7th defenseman.

HERE IS THE TRADE

The Edmonton Oilers trade Darnell Nurse 5.6 mill, Zack Kassian 3.2 mill and a third round pick in 2022 to The Winnipeg Jets for Nikolaj Ehlers, 6 mill Adam Lowry 2.9  and a conditional 2nd round pick. (The pick becomes a 3rd rounder if Nurse does not resign with the Jets)

The new Jets line-up would have Darnell Nurse playing with Pionk on the second pair and using Derek Forbort on your taxi squad.  Nurse can and will bring a physicality to the Jets game which has been lacking since Big Buff left the team. Nurse is not the absolute wall that big Buff was but he brings scoring and offense to the back end he hits well and can get the team going.
Zach Kassian Would move to the third line on the right wing moving Mason Appleton to center to start. Kassian is a great utility player who can move up and down the line-up if one of your other right wingers gets hurt or isnt playing up to their ability. Kassin who has been playing on McDavid’s wing on and off for the last two season has been putting up .43 points every game which could translate well if he plays with Scheifele or could finish and get goals with Stastny. Finally to fill the blank space that Ehlers would leave on the left side I think C.J. Suess should come up play the third line moving Copp up.
It would be a little choppy at first for the the Jets but I think adding a physical element is what the Jets need to move past the first or second round in the playoffs.

For the Oilers getting Ehlers I would have him play with McDavid on the left side moving Kuhun to the fourth line and then moving Chaisson to the right side where Kassian would be.
Lowry is the really intresting piece in this trade because the Oilers just picked up Turris and still have Jujhar Khaira for the PK. Khaira has not had much luck the last two seasons and Turris had a rough time in Nashville so Lowry could be there to take a spot from either one of these guys and really put the Oilers over the top and make them a contender for the cup.

Who Wins This Deal?
I firmly believe The Jets come out on top of this deal. Kassian will want to show off for his new city and his beef with Matty Tkchuck will explode more in Winnipeg because of what happened during the play in round. The Jets need more on the back-end and Nurse will give that to the Jets and both players will be absolute monsters that the Jets need.
The Oilers will get scoring from Ehlers and a solid 3/4 line center that they need from Lowry.  The only way I see this going poorly for the Oilers is if one of there young defense-men doesn’t reach their potential. Only time will tell on this deal.
