It’s not about to make any “best of” lists for even the month of October, but the Jets survived a stumble out of the gate in the first period to grind out a 2-2 tie after 60 minutes of play and got a quick OT winner from Mark Scheifele to extend their winning streak to three games.

First Period

Awful start for the Jets compounded by really bad special teams play as they looked horrible with the first power play of the game giving up three different scoring chances and being scored on in the first odd-man rush against.
The Jets penalty kill didn’t fare much better as it also gave up a goal to fall behind 2-0.
When playing 5v5 even strength, the Jets weren’t as bad, but the Blackhawks did have an edge in that department as well and were out-shot 13-10 in the first 20 minutes of play.

Second Period

Nice of the Jets to show up for the game as they did in the second period with a lot better forecheck and tightening up in their own end. The Jets top power play unit continued to struggle but thankfully the second group were a little bit better and found the back of the net thanks to a nice set up and a @Nikolaj Ehlers bomb.
The Jets also managed to play better at even strength as well as the middle frame was a combination of decent defense from both teams but a lot more bad passing, The Jets did have one more good scoring chance near the end of the period, but @Robin Lehner was able to stop the puck with an old-school two pad stack.

Third Period

No tweet better summed up how this entire game was and felt better than Scott Billeck’s observation midway through it.
Neither team seemed overly sharp, bad passing was prevalent throughout, but somehow the Jets managed to find a way to tie things up a little bit past midway through the period.
The Jets actually out-shot the Hawks by one in that final period 11-10 as both teams had chances to get the go-ahead goal, but both Lehner and @Connor Hellebuyck were pretty good.

Overtime Period

The Jets didn’t waste any time in the overtime period scoring 47 seconds into it on a pretty simple play but lethal shot by @Mark Scheifele.

TL;DR Why The Jets Won

The Hawks – who had the Jets on the ropes in the first period – couldn’t finish the deal early and the Jets played a decent enough road game in the final 40 minutes to scrape out a win.

JetsNation’s Top Gun

As noted during the game, even when he’s not scoring, Nik Ehlers has been so much fun to watch from a speed and offensive generating perspective. His goal tonight gave the Jets life when it didn’t seem like the team had any.

The Boxscore

Next Flight

The Jets are turning right back around home tonight and will have a home date with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Puck drop is set to be at 6pm CST and will air on Sportsnet’s Hometown Hockey on TV and TSN 1290 on the radio.
