The Jets fell behind early but clawed back to tie the game and took a late lead in the third period, but David Perron scored with less than a minute left to tie and then scored again in overtime to help the St. Louis Blues to a 4-3 win over Winnipeg.
The Jets preseason record falls to 1-1-1.
It really wasn’t exactly a slow start for the Jets as they looked good getting pucks to the net, but their defensive zone coverage was lacking a bit and the Blues took advantage of stretch plays to catch the defense sleeping a couple of times. The Blues got out to an early 2-0 lead but the Jets through it kept playing steady.
Nik Ehlers scored on a breakaway that is a super encouraging sign given the issues he had with that last season.
The second period was a little more even between the teams as shots were 11-8 in favor of the Jets and it was the Jets who tied things up with a great cross ice play that Nik Ehlers almost went bar down on, but Adam Lowry needed to clean up things by tucking in the loose puck.
In the third it was again well played by Winnipeg as far as preseason standards go and for a moment it looked like they were going to win it as Gabriel Bourque scored about three minutes left in the game to take the 3-2 lead.
But much like they did multiple times last season, the Jets found a way to steal a defeat from the jaws of victory.
David Perron scored with the Blues net empty sniped a goal top shelf past Connor Hellebuyck to tie things up, and then in the third period did it again to win the game for St. Louis.

TL;DR Why The Jets Lost

The Jets had a decent effort tonight but defensive lapses and some shaky goaltending from Connor Hellebuyck who stopped just 17 of 21 shots faced helped the Blues steal a win in Winnipeg.

JetsNation’s Top Gun

Nik Ehlers was rumored to have been working on his game and studied all the video he could during the summer and it sure looked like it tonight. He was all over the place, quick on pucks and two beauty shots had him looking in mid-season form.

Play Of The Game

Nik Ehlers scored on a breakaway. Can you imagine just how great it will be if he can ever score on half of these that he gets in a season?!
