TALKING POINTS

• For all the talk of Patrik Laine being on the fourth line tonight, he played 16:06 which was the sixth highest total for Jets forwards, so it obviously didn’t last long. In fact outside of the Lowry/Copp/Tanev line, Paule Maurice continued to shuffle lines around a fair amount in this game. Clearly he doesn’t like what he’s seeing from any line right now.
• Tyler Myers at least one time every game will let a puck get past him as he tried to hold it in the Jets offensive zone and it will almost always lead to an odd man rush the other way. You can almost set your watch to it.
• The Jets at least came out for the start of the game and played well which was a nice change of pace, but with that said they still gave up more scoring chances in the first period by a 9-6 margin and were only even with them in that category in the second period with seven each. The third period as you can well imagine the Jets gave up 12 scoring chances (seven of them of the high danger quality) and only managed seven themselves.
• Nik Ehlers is going to score on a breakaway one of these days and when he does, I think we should have a parade.
• The Jets have now scored a power play goal in eight straight games. So that’s a positive at least.
• Poor Connor Hellebuyck. Up until that third period he was having himself a decent game, but all three goals against in the third period kind of fall into “that’s a save you’d like to have” category and instead of a shutout or praise over a 30 save victory, he has a .907 save percentage hung on him and more questions remain about his play right now.
