JNGD.S8.G82 Flight Plan: Looking For Positive Playoff Momentum Just Outside Of Phoenix

The Winnipeg Jets could finish on top of the Central division tonight, or they could finish as low as third place and not have home ice advantage at all in the playoffs, but really all most Jets fans want to see tonight is a victory almost of any kind just to build some positive momentum going into the post-season after maybe the most tumultuous week we’ve seen in Jetsville in the last three season.

Coyotes Player To Watch

#30 Calvin Pickard  – Goaltender

Pickard makes his fourth start of the season for the Coyotes tonight in what has been a whirlwind of a season for the 26 year old netminder. He started the season competing for the role of Maple Leafs backup goalie – a battle he lost to Garret Sparks – was waived and subsequently picked up by the goaltending hell that is the Philadelphia Flyers. He lasted a little over a month in Philly and was waived November 28 and claimed by Arizona. He’s had five appearances for the Coyotes this season – three of them starts and has gone 0-3-0 with a .896 save percentage.

Last Coyotes Game

Derek Stepan scored twice, Darcy Kuemper made 35 saves and the Coyotes did their part to stay alive in the playoff race (Jets unfortunately didn’t do theirs) in an inspired 4-1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.

Jets Player To Watch

#27 Nik Ehlers – Left Wing

Nik Ehlers sent seven games without a point until his goal in the first period against Colorado on Thursday night. The seven game slump put an exclamation point on a rather pedestrian month of March where he only managed three goals and four assists in 15 games played.
This may sound like a bit of a broken record when it comes to the Jets top six forwards, but they need Nik Ehlers to get back into form if they are going to have any success in the playoffs.

Last Jets Game

A really good first period gave way to two very sub-par periods that saw the Jets cling on to the slimmest of leads until the Avalanche tied it in the third period and then won it in overtime to earn themselves a spot in the playoffs.
