Jets Notebook

  • Afternoon games are usually a bit of a hit-or-miss deal with the Jets, having been a lot more miss than anything. Last season the Jets went 4-3-0 in afternoon games which brought their overall record to 22-31-13 since the move to Winnipeg in 2011. Today is the first of seven afternoon games the Jets will play this season (the two games in Finland not included as those are evening contests locally)
  • Winnipeg continues to do well against Pacifici divison teams this season. They are 2-0-1 against teams from that division so far early on, which is hopefully an indication that their success against that division last season is about to carry over. In 2017-18, the Jets posted a 17-4-2 record against teams from the Pacific which included a 3-0-0 sweep of the Coyotes.
  • All three of Patrik Laine’s goals have been on the power play and he is one back of the current lead in the NHL in that department.
  • Laurent Brossoit gets his second start of the season and coincidentally it’ll again be in the alternate Aviator uniforms. His last start was his debut (along with the debut of the jersey) and it was a great one as he made 42 saves in shutting down the Carolina Hurricanes last Sunday.

Coyotes Notebook

  • The Coyotes have yet to win a game in Winnipeg since the Thrashers move north to the Coyotes former home. They are 0-7-2 since the 2011-12 season.
  • The Coyotes may be struggling offensively, but it isn’t for lack of taking shots. They’ve had 30 shots on goal in each of their last six games and are averaging 34.8 shots a game this season. part of their struggles scoring can be traced back to the injury to Alex Galchenyuk who has missed the first six games of the season. He’ll miss this one as well, but he’s at least staking with the team again.
  • Arizona has also done well in staying disciplined so far this year as they’ve only given up 14 power play opportunities which ties them for top spot in the NHL in that category.
  • Arizona’s last game was a strong 4-1 win in Chicago helped paced by a two goal effort from Vinnie Hinostroza and 33 saves from Antti Raanta. This is the third game of a four game central swing as they will head to Columbus for a game there on Tuesday.
