JNGD.S8.G68 Flight Plan: A Clash Of High Powered Southeast Division Rivals
Save for one bad night in Tampa Bay, the Jets four game road trip hasn’t gone all that badly for them with impressive wins in both Columbus and Carolina. Tonight however in their fourth and last game of the trip, the Jets get just as stiff a test as they received against the Lightning when they go into Washington to play the defending Cup champs who have been on an impressive roll as of late.

#19 Nicklas Backstrom – Center
The hockey world may have lost it’s collective minds over Mark Stone the last few months, but this is a little reminder that Nicklas Backstrom has been for pretty much doing what Stone has done recently and arguably better than him, his entire 12 year NHL career. Now granted he does get to see plenty of ice time with Alex Ovehckin which always helps the assist numbers, but he’s topped the 20 goal mark in each of the last four seasons – this season looking like a sure bet to be the fifth in a row – and he’s routinely in the discussion of top defensive forwards in the NHL.

- The Caps have an all-time record of 49-27-5-9 against Atlanta/Winnipeg

#88 Nathan Beaulieu – Defense
The trade for Kevin Hayes may have gotten all the headlines at the deadline and he is certainly fitting in for the Jets early on, but it’s the trade of a sixth round pick to Buffalo for Nathan Beaulieu that has the lead for “steal of the deadline” considering the dire straits the Jets defense seemed to be in a day earlier having lost Josh Morrissey for up to a month with injury. Beaulieu requested a trade away from Buffalo leading up to the deadline as the Sabres just didn’t seem to have any interest in giving him serious minutes as he was averaging just under 15 per game with Buffalo.
Since joining the Jets, he’s taken Morrissey’s spot beside Jacob Trouba and is up to 18 minutes per game – he played 21:37 in the victory over Carolina – and in his five games with the Jets has collected three assists.

Last Jets Game
Likely still stinging from the previous defeat in Tampa, a bunch of Jets skated into Carolina and surged past the Hurricanes with a dominant 8-1 victory as Laurent Brossoit made 28 saves and Andrew Copp picked up a couple of goals.

Jets Notebook
- The Jets haven’t won two road games in a row yet this calendar year. Conversely though, they also haven’t lost three regulation games in a row since December 2016.
- The Jets are 17-9-2 against Eastern Conference teams this season, including 11-3-0 against the Metropolitan division.
- Six different Jets had multi-point games in the win over Carolina. Nik Ehlers led all Jets with a goal and two assists.
- Blake Wheeler has a four game goal scoring streak (he’s scored seven over the last four games) and an eight game point streak which is the second longest he’s had this season (he had one of 11 games back in October/November)
- The Jets have never had much success in the US capital, going 12-22-10 all-time in Washington, but again keep in mind a lot of that record goes back to the Atlanta days.
- Connor Hellebuyck is 3-1-1 in five career starts against Washington with a 2.13 goals-against average and .933 save percentage.
