JNGD.S8.G51 Flight Plan: Kyle Connor And The Jets Return Home And Look To Hang Up Jackets

alt

The Jets return home for three games and there is hope that a little home cooking can right the ship a little bit. The Jets have picked up wins and continue to lead the Central division, but the wins have been difficult as the offense has sputtered and the defense continues to struggle with turnovers and zone exits.

Blue Jacket Player To Watch

#9 Artemi Panarin – Left Wing

The eyes of the hockey world have been on Panarin and the Blue Jackets for some time now as the pending unrestricted free agent has been the subject of many a trade rumor leading up tot he deadline. After leading the Jackets in goals, assists and points last season, Panarin is on pace for another such year this season and there is obviously pressure to get him re-signed to a long term deal to keep him in Columbus. The fact he hasn’t given a true indication as to whether he will or not puts the Jackets in a tough spot. With Columbus fighting for a playoff spot in a tough Metropolitan division it would be a huge blow to trade him away, but the consequences of losing him for nothing at all this summer could be even worse.
In the meantime, he’ll line up on Columbus’ top line tonight to see if he can continue his point-per-game pace against the Winnipeg Jets. In 12 games played against Winnipeg, he’s managed five goals and seven assists.

Last Blue Jackets Game

Carlyle wasn’t wrong when he said his team stopped skating in the second period of their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, blowing a 3-0 lead going into the second period and ultimately losing 7-4.

Jets Player To Watch

#81 Kyle Connor – Left Wing

With seven goals and four assists, Kyle Connor has had a pretty solid month of January. He’s had three point games against Detroit and Vegas and while not an official hat trick, his two goals in regulation time and shootout game winner carried the Jets to their last victory. Kyle had a four game point streak stretch at the start of the month and has since gained points in every other game which could mean he goes point-less tonight, but with the Jets struggling to find consistent offense, they could really use another big night from number 81.

Last Jets Game

A couple of quick Kyle Connor goals in the third period helped mask over an otherwise poor game overall against the Bruins, but thanks to him and Connor Hellebuyck putting up a near wall in goal, the Jets were able to steal a shootout victory in Boston.
