JNGD.S8.G48 Flight Plan: Jets Look For Five In A Row Against The Dallas Drama Club

Throughout TV and movie history, there have been a number of shows that have tried to feature hockey and what kinds of drama and turmoil are stirred up within the walls of an arena. A rare few are good, but there are truly some bad series (that you can’t even really find unless you do some digging on the internetthat just seem hokey and reaching for all sorts of scenarios that when you watch, you can’t help mutter to yourself; “there is no way a pro hockey team could be that dysfunctional in real life”
Ladies and gentlemen, meet the 2018-19 Dallas Stars.
It looks like years of disappointing and sub-par finishes – two playoff appearances and just one series win in the last 10 seasons – are starting to wear thin on pretty much everyone in Big D and the last three weeks have seen an almost non-stop run of various sub plots that would make for a crazy season let alone just a month.
Let’s see if the Jets – who come in feeling pretty good about themselves after a huge win in Nashville – can add to their misery just a little more before they head off for a week long break leading into the All-Star break.

Stars Player To Watch

#47 Alexander Radulov – Right Wing

While Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin had a whole bunch of attention thrown at them at the start of this month, Alex Radulov found himself in the middle of the Stars drama in their last game against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night. The 32 year old forward had been in a bit of a mini slump as of late having not earned a point in three previous Dallas losses, and the lack of production was starting to wear on him until he apparently snapped back at his coach, a move he later admitted was kind of dumb.
Radulov was benched for the first period but still played a little over 19 minutes and did earn an assist on the Stars lone goal of the night.
Radulov has had a reputation before in his days with Nashville and Montreal as being a bit difficult to deal with but by all accounts has been a model player in his second season with the Dallas Stars. Still, for a team scrapping to earn a playoff spot in a super competitive division, one more distraction isn’t what the Stars needed.

Last Stars Game

For the second time this week, a Los Angeles based pro sports team took out a Dallas team that features a star in their logo. At the very least this one wasn’t quite as humiliating as the one on Sunday, but it did feature the Stars former first round pick of the 2010 Draft (taken 11th overall) put up a near brick wall late in the game to preserve a 2-1 Kings win.

Stars Notes

  • The Stars just recently acquired veteran forward Andrew Cogliano from the Anaheim Ducks for Devin Shore. The move should help bolster the Stars depth scoring and overall team speed although early returns aren’t positive as he’s gone pointless in his first two games with Dallas, only managing a single shot between both games.
  • Miro Heiskanen continues to impress in his rookie season with the Stars. His goal on Thursday puts him up to nine for the season and places him a tie for seventh among all NHL defensemen for goals scored. He was also named to the 2019 All-Star game along with forward Tyler Seguin.
  • Eric Condra is one point away from 100.
  • Defending Big D: Afterwords: Soul-Searching and Jack Campbell – The Stars continue to look for answers after being shutout by a former first round pick.

Jets Player To Watch

#48 Brendan Lemieux  – Left Wing

Brendan Lemieux doesn’t score in many games ever, but when he does, apparently it has to be twice in a game.
The 22 year old Son Of Claude picked up two goals in the victory over Nashville on Thursday night. It was the second multi-goal game of his career – many initially reported it as his first which is understandable when you consider that it’s Brendan Lemieux and goal scoring really hasn’t been his thing.
His last multi goal game before Thursday? It was actually seven games prior in the last game of 2018 against the Edmonton Oilers.
His play has improved ever so slightly and his penchant for taking dumb penalties seems to have been reduced, but there is still very much a wait-and-see attitude around Lemieux as he continues to try and leave a lasting impression – for the right reasons – on Jets coaches and fans alike.

Last Jets Game

The Jets continued their ownership of the Predators in Nashville with a rather dominant 5-1 victory to put some distance between themselves and the Preds in the Central division standings.

Jets Notes

  • The Jets are 1-1-0 against the Stars this season. They lost in Dallas back on October 6 by a 5-1 score but evened things back up with a 5-1 win of their own in Winnipeg on Janurary 4th. That loss in Dallas was the Jets first loss against the Stars in their last ten games. Overall they are 16-9-1 against the Stars since moving north from Atlanta to Winnipeg.
  • Winnipeg has gone 12 for 12 on the penalty kill over their last four games which includes a 4 for 4 night against Nashville. They are actually 10-5-0 in games this season where they give up four or more power play opportunities with a penalty killing percentage of 84.9% in those 15 games.
  • Kyle Connor is one point away from career point 100. Mathieu Perreault is two away from 300 career points.
