Red Wing Player To Watch

#71 Dylan Larkin – Center

Ask a random hockey fan to list off some of the top young talent in the game today and you’d get names like Laine, McDavid, Matthews and MacKinnon, but Dylan Larkin’s name deserves to be in that discussion as well and likely isn’t simply because he’s been on a low profile rebuilding Detroit Red Wings team. After a 23 goal, 45 point rookie season in 2015-16, Larkin remained a lone oasis of offensive ability in Detroit for the next two seasons after, but this year has hit another gear with 18 goals and 41 points in just 45 games played.

Last Red Wings Game

The Wings had a pretty decent game at home against the Habs on Tuesday, but a couple of quick goals in the 2nd period put the Wings behind and they couldn’t muster a comeback in a 3-2 loss to Montreal.

Red Wings Notebook

  • Mike Green makes his return to the Wings lineup tonight after missing 13 games with an injured foot suffered on a block shot against the Minnesota Wild. The Wings are 13-8-2 when Green is dressed.
  • The Red Wings recently went 1-3-1 in their last home stand which ended on Tuesday to a loss against Montreal. The feeling is that the Wings have been playing better since their 1-7-2 start to the season, but lack of overall depth – especially on the blue line – has hurt the team a great deal.

Jets Player To Watch

#30 Laurent Brossoit – Goalie

Understandable the Jets will ride and die with Connor Hellebuyck, but with as well as Brossoit has done this season as the Jets backup, you’d think Paul Maurice would get him in to see more game action. Laurent’s last game was a 40 save shutout in his home province of British Columbia against the Canucks and while the Christmas schedule has messed with the goalie rotation as one would expect, it seems odd that the Jets have gone this long – six games – to get him back in the net. Hopefully the nearly three week lay off hasn’t allowed too much rust to gather on the Jets backup goalie.

Last Jets Game

The Jets didn’t muster much in the way of offense against a hard checking Minnesota Wild team in a 3-2 loss last night at Xcel Energy Center.

Jets Notebook

  • Tyler Myers is day to day after leaving the third period of last nights game against the Wild with an upper body injury. Sami Niku will take his place in the lineup.
