The Jets continue on at home this week, after an impressively well-rounded game against the Dallas Stars on Sunday despite mid-season injuries piling up. Their opponent, the Colorado Avalanche are starting out a five game road trip in Winnipeg tonight. The trip takes them over to Calgary tomorrow, then jetting across Canada to Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa.

Avalanche Player To Watch

#96 Mikko Rantanen – Right Wing

Unless you’ve been actively ignoring the Avalanche this season, you’ve probably heard of Mikko Rantanen. But in case you haven’t, he’s 1/3rd of Colorado’s infamous RML Line (with MacKinnon and Landeskog) and sitting at 65 points for his breakout season has him at second in the overall points leader category and only 4 points away from Nikita Kucherov first place. Mikko has also been selected to partake in the NHL All-Star Game in San Jose this year, alongside his linemate Nathan Mackinnon.

Last Avs Game

The Colorado Avalanche finished up a home stand with the New York Rangers on January 4th with 6-1 win.  By looking at the score, one would falsely believe that the Avs were back in their pre-December shape. However, the game was riddled with an utter lack of discipline from the Rangers who drew 10 penalties, including a 5 minute major from Cody McLeod for boarding Samuel Girard.

Avalanche Notebook

  • The Avalanche’s last win in Bell MTS Place was January 18th 2016. Their record at Bell MTS Place is 3-9-0.
  • On January 4th Tyson Barrie set the franchise marker for most points by a defenseman.
  • Jets fans will be happy to note that Mark Scheifele is safe from Nikita Zadorov who is out with an injury.

Jets Player To Watch

#57 Tyler Myers – Center

Since the injury to Byfuglien at the end of 2018, Tyler Myers has been one of the defensemen pressed into more action and so far he’s handled the extra work quite well. After a very rocky start to the season, Myers has done very well in his own end of the ice to start limiting shots against while helping the Jets generate some offense. Last Jets Game

The Jets started a two game home stand Sunday afternoon game against the Dallas Stars. After Friday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins the Jets came out flying. They played a fast paced game and proved that they were able to play a full 60 of well rounded, including a fantastic afternoon in net from Connor Hellebuyck, ultimately winning the game 5-1.

Jets Notebook

  • Brian Little’s goal against the Dallas Stars on January 6th was his first in 12 games
