JNGD.S8.G41 Flight Plan: Jets Hope To Regain Offensive Form Against Stars Dynamic Duo

The Winnipeg Jets may be one more bad offensive game from putting ‘MISSING’ notices on the back of milk cartons. The team has only managed to score more than one goal in a game just once over the last five and have lost four of their last seven.
It’s not all doom and gloom for the Jets as they can reclaim top spot in the Central with a win today, but it will have to come at the expense of the Dallas Stars who are starting to find their game even if their own CEO is doing his best to undermine the entire situation with his two best players.

Stars Player To Watch

#14 Jamie Benn – Left Wing

The Stars captain gets back into the lineup after having left the team’s game against the New Jersey Devils near the end of the second period after a violent hit sent him into the boards at an awkward angle. Jamie missed the Stars game against the Capitals but looks to be in for tonight’s game against Winnipeg. It’s been a tough start to 2019 for Jamie as he and his running buddy Tyler Seguin came under fire from their own team’s CEO Jim Lites. Off the ice Jamie handled the profanity laced tirade as well as one could expect.
On the ice Jamie has also responded with a goal in each of the last two games played since the critical comments were made.
The Stars issues with underachieving for multiple seasons run far deeper than the play of Jamie Benn or Tyler Seguin, but thanks to the Stars CEO, the focus is pretty much entirely on them.

Last Stars Game

Stars coach Jim Montgomery called their 2-1 win over the Capitals “lucky” as Dallas needed to rely on some outstanding goaltending from  Anton Khudobin and a pair of Tyler Seguin goals – the second coming in overtime.

Stars Notebook

  • “Taking In The Week That Was” Defending Big D – It’s been a crazy eventful past week for Dallas fans who have had to deal with the team’s CEO freaking out on their two best players while the NHL awarded them an outdoor hockey game for 2020.
  • The Stars posted a 5-1 win over the Jets the last time the two teams met back on October 6. Both Benn and Seguin had two goal nights in that contest.
  • Goalie Ben Bishop owns a career 5-3-1 record with a .930 SV% in 11 appearances against the Jets.
  • Tyler Seguin is one away from 300 career assists.

Jets Player To Watch

#28 Jack Roslovic – Forward

With the injury to Nik Ehlers who is out for the next month or so, now is Jack Roslovic’s time to prove himself as a capable top six NHL forward. The 21 year old center will move up to the wing as he skated with Bryan Little and Patrik Laine in Saturday morning’s practice.
Roslovic has been a tough inconsistent in his NHL play, though to be fair he hasn’t been given many opportunities to shine. It will be interesting to see how long a leash Paul Maurice gives him as he gets his shot with the Jets as a team struggling to score goals.

Last Jets Game

The less we talk about it, the better… The Jets continue to struggle with offense and the Penguins take advantage with some awfully strange goals against.

Jets Notes

  • It’s a later afternoon start so maybe that helps the Jets as they are 2-2-0 in afternoon games this season and 24-33-8 since relocation.
  • Despite the struggles, the Jets hit the 25 win mark faster than any other previous Thrashers/Jets team with win 25 coming in their 39th game against the Oilers. Last season the Jets needed 43 games to hit the 25 win mark.
  • The Jets are 7-5-0 against other Central division teams this season and today’s game is the first of five over the next eight games against division rivals.
  • Winnipeg is 17-19-2 against the Dallas Stars and sports a 8-5-0 record at home against them.
