JNGD.S8.G29 Flight Plan: Morrissey Returns As Jets Look To Find Offense Vs Philly

alt
Art Middleton
The Jets defense continues to get healthier as a game after the team welcomed back Dustin Byfuglien and Dmitri Kulikov back to the lineup, they will have Josh Morrissey back after missing a pair of games with a lower body injury.
While the Jets get their full defensive unit back, it’s their offense that they’d also like to see make a full recovery as it went silent two nights ago against the St. Louis Blues.

Flyers Player To Watch

#25 James van Riemsdyk – Left Wing

The 29 year old forward is in his first season back with the Flyers after having spent six years as a Toronto Maple Leaf. James signed with the Flyers as a free agent on July 1 and has been a solid contributor to the team with two goals and six points in 11 games.
An original Flyers first round pick in 2007 (2nd overall), he had a goal and assist in Saturday’s win over the Sabres and is now one point away for 400 for his career.

Last Flyers Game

The Flyers fell behind 2-1 after 20 minutes of play and then decided to unleash all goal scoring hell as they scored the next six goals to thump the Sabres 6-2 in a Saturday afternoon contest in Buffalo.

Latest Flyers Headlines

Garrioch: “Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher exploring his options” – New Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher (who was fired this past summer from the Minnesota Wild) has some work to do and decisions to make with the underachieving Philadelphia Flyers.
Sportsnet: “Giroux’s goal, 3 assists helps Flyers hand Sabres fifth straight loss” – The Flyers fell behind 2-0 to Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday afternoon, and then opened up all kinds of goal scoring thanks in part to a four point night from Claude Giroux who found himself playing center due to an injury to Sean Couturier.
Broad Street Hockey: “Do the Flyers “want to make big trades right away”?” – It’s tempting to think that when a new GM is brought in – even mid-season – that there will be all kinds of changes right away, but that may not be the case with Fletcher’s Flyers.

Jets Player To Watch

#44 Josh Morrissey – Defense

Morrissey makes his return to the lineup and will likely take his place back on the top pairing with Jacob Trouba.
Before his injury, Morrissey was not only playing his typical strong defense, but he was starting to contribute offensively with points in three of his last five games played as that part of the game becomes more of a comfort area for him as he sees more time on the power play units.

Last Jets Game

The Blues Jake Allen was a wall in goal for the Blues, but the Jets didn’t like the effort they gave in trying to get scoring chances up the middle of the ice. The end result was a disappointing 1-0 loss at home that snapped the Jets four game win streak.

Latest Jets Headlines

Global: “Winnipeg Jets players help student make it to her exam on time” – Good guys Mark Scheifele and Brandon Tanev know how important a good education is for the kids, so it should be no surprise that when a college kid was trying to get her exam on time and couldn’t find a parking spot, Scheifele and Tanev – who had just taken one of the last remaining spots – gave up their parking spot for her.
The Hockey Writers: “Nic Petan: Jets’ Outside Man Once Again” – Nic Petan just can’t seem to catch a break. He once again seems to be on the outside looking in on a Jets lineup that he can’t seem to crack.
Wiebe: “Jets’ Morrissey uses time off wisely” – Turns out Mark Scheifele isn’t the only player on the Jets who obsesses with the game even when hes not playing it. Morrissey used the time off he had due to injury to watch plenty of video.
