Of course this is going seven.
A series we all saw coming as an inevitable meeting as early as January only seems right to go the full seven games which is what we’ll get thanks to a clutch (aka: trapping) 4-0 Predators win in game six to even the series at 3-3.

TALKING POINTS

  • Ugh.
  • The Jets again got off on the wrong foot with a sluggish first period that saw them fall behind super early with a bit of a lucky goal from Viktor Arvidsson and then even with three power plays in the first period, unable to get past a clogging Preds defense. The period ends with shots even at six, the Jets having a couple of extra scoring chances (6-4) and one extra high danger scoring chance (3-2) but overall it felt like the Preds were in control of that first period. Not the worse one we’ve seen from the Jets in this season, but not ideal either.
  • Of course that means the second period was a much better effort, but again it’s the Predators scoring off a fortunate goal that slips by Chiarot and then scored by Filip Forsberg who initially was just going to get a new stick to replace the one he broke but ended up finding the puck on his stick and then hustled in and went top shelf as he was being hauled down (one has to think he was going to get a penalty shot anyway as he had a clear path to the goal)
  • One thing that plagued the Jets tonight was constant over-skating of the puck. It’s funny that there is a thing as too much speed in hockey, but time and time again the Jets were seen flying past a waiting rebound or a loose puck along the boards. I don’t know if it was a timing thing, a gripping sticks too tight thing… The Jets were just off in this game
  • The Predators penalty killing was outstanding all game and gave the Jets nothing to work with, but the Jets also were a combination of not being able to get out of each others way and just not skating as well as we’ve seen them do in the past.
  • Full credit to Pekka Rinne who was outstanding in a 34 save effort for the shutout. Connor Hellebuyck was also fantastic tonight with 25 saves of his own, but just had zero offensive support tonight. Hellebuyck deserved a much better fate tonight.
  • Kudos to the fans who stayed at Bell MTS Place to chant the final few minutes. Like Hellebuyck, they deserved better.
  • Two days between game six and seven? Ugh.
