Connor Hellebuyck comes up big, Mark Scheifele scores twice and the Jets are now one win away from their first ever playoff series win in franchise history with a 2-0 win in game four over Minnesota on Tuesday night.

TALKING POINTS

  • An hour or so before the game, the NHL announced Connor Hellebuyck was one of three finalists for the Vezina Trophy and then Connor Hellebuyck came out with a performance that screams “YA DAMN RIGHT I AM” with 30 saves and the first ever playoff shutout in franchise history.
  • As expected, the Jets came out skating much better in this one tonight. They won’t say that the odd travel on the weekend and long day on Sunday hurt them, but it clearly did. Tonight was more like the Jets we’ve seen all season.
  • Fantastic patience yet again to the Jets play, but if there is one thing I think all of us would like to see more from the Jets is a little more presence in front of the Wild net in terms of bodies and creating some chaos in front of Dubnyk.
  • No idea how four sets of eyes missed Josh Morrissey’s cross-check to Eric Staal… But you can be certain Player Safety in Toronto won’t miss it. The Jets defensive depth is about to be tested again. As for Morrissey, he’s not a dirty player, but this is the second time within a month he’s had a questionable hit/stick work attached to his name and he needs to take care of that a little better.
  • Dustin Byfuglien was strong in taking some of Tyler Myers’ minutes and has low key (and sometimes not low key) been the MVP for the Jets in this series. Jacob Trouba was great in taking some of Tyler Myers minutes although some of his passes have been so very ill-advised and led to awful turnovers. Tucker Poolman also deserves some love for coming in his first playoff game and keeping his play simple yet effective.
  • Loved that the Jets closed out the last five minutes or so of the game by continuing to attack and playing their regular game.
  • Friday night in Winnipeg could should will be insane.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

For Winnipeg: Connor Hellebuyck – Was there any doubt? 30 saves, some of them brilliant. Huge bounce-back game for him.
For Minnesota: Devan Dubnyk – Was there any doubt? 27 saves and deserved a better fate in this game and it’s looking likely in the series.

NEXT FLIGHT

The Jets and Wild now get a couple of days between games as the Jets take their 3-1 series lead (pinch me) back to Winnipeg for game five on Friday night. Puck drop is set for 6:30 PM CST.
