JNGD.70 Recap: Not Good In Nashville

A six game road trip ends with a slight thud as the Winnipeg Jets fall to the Nashville Predators by a 3-1 score, but truth be told, the result could have been much worse and the Jets deserve credit for gutting out a close game in the final to periods.
Time to come home Jets.
TALKING POINTS
- The start of the game was as ugly as it could possibly get and I think it was a perfect storm of the Predators being well rested, fired up from a disappointing OT loss on Saturday and knowing they could pounce on a wounded and beaten up Jets club that had played less than 24 hours previous.
- Losing Paul Stastny in the warm up skate probably din’t help the Jets mentality either. When it rains, it pours.
- Oh did you think that would be the only injury tonight? Goalie Michael Hutchinson left after the third goal against, but truthfully he didn’t look right after he took a shot to the head that we initially thought may have just dinged up his mask and nothing more. Word after the game was that Hutch was going to be looked at tomorrow and it’s possible he’ll miss more time.
- It’s almost remarkable that the Jets gave up two short handed goals in one power play, but they did and that sadly was the difference in the game. Hutch looked bad in giving up the goal to Austin Watson – but again there may have been an injury issue when that goal happened – and I’m still trying to figure out what Tyler Myers was doing when his pocket was picked leading to the Arvidsson goal.
- Full credit to the Jets for righting the ship after that. Call it score effects if you want (and it was at least a bit) but the Jets out-shot the Preds 12-11 in the second period and 15-10 in the third.
- Patrik Laine and Nik Ehlers continue to be amazing and again were the best forwards on the night for the Jets. Laine doesn’t extend his goal scoring streak, but the point streak is still alive as he had an assist on Kyle Connor’s goal in the third.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME
For Winnipeg: Connor Hellebuyck – He was supposed to have the night off, instead he put up a 30 save effort to keep the Jets in the game.
For Nashville: Viktor Arvidsson – One goal and seven shots, he was leading the way for the Preds attack.
NEXT FLIGHT
The Jets will return home and get a little time to reconnect with family (and hopefully see a few injures teammates return) before hosting the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night.
