TALKING POINTS

• The Jets played like a team that was missing three of their regulars on defense (Trouba, Enstrom and Kulikov) and two of their top three centers (Scheifele & Lowry) … Not that I am wanting to make excuses for a loss, but you take out five players of that caliber from any NHL lineup, and they will struggle, especially on the road. keep that in mind as you mull over this loss for the rest of the weekend.
• Would have liked a more aggressive start from the Jets in the game, it really felt like they were trying to get by doing the bare minimum a team needs to do to be competitive in a game.
• Connor Hellebuyck did all he could to keep the Jets in the game. I liked his work today and he damn near made a fantastic glove save on what ended up being the game winning goal in the second.
• As the headline says: At least Patrik Laine scored. His point streak is now 11 games, his goal scoring streak is at five games. He’s had 15 goals in his last 11 games. The Jets losing today was one thing, but if laine had been kept off the boxscore it would have felt like a kick to the gut for most Jets fans.
• The Jets are now 3-1-0 on this six game road trip. That’s still pretty good. They’re doing that with injuries to a bunch of players and illnesses to others… This team is going to be ok.
• Hopefully Bryan Little is ok. he took a vicious two handed slash from Brandon Manning of the Flyers at the end of the game and was very slow to walk to the dressing room. Last thing the Jets need is a third center lost to injury.
