Back to back games and back to back wins for the Winnipeg Jets as they recover from a slightly shaky first period, tally five goals in the third and coast to a 5-2 win in Dallas

TALKING POINTS

  • Hutch was indeed clutch. One unfortunate bad goal that he probably didn’t even see off the face-off, but he rebounded terrifically and made 32 saves as well as added an assist. Great night for Hutch. (We’re going to ignore that third goal against him of course. Woof.)
  • The Stars started this game with some very physical play which is always a bit of their M.O. most nights, but they seemed especially focused on Mark Scheifele. I would argue it threw the Jets off a little bit for the first half of the first period, but the Jets got themselves together and started pressing matters with about five minutes left in the first period.
  • Obviously that second period was a thing of beauty. The Jets had five goals in the middle frame, but Dallas wasn’t actually that bad in the period, but they got a visit from Kari Leht-them-in who couldn’t stop some rather admittedly tough shots from Patrik Laine, Nik Ehlers, Mark Scheifele and Tobias Enstrom.
  • Wait.. Enstrom scored? *prepares bomb shelter for the end of the world*
  • The Stars started the third period extremely well as the Jets went into a bit of a shell defensively which is never an overly wise strategy. Granted the Jets are a fine team on defense, so it works out, but would like to see the Jets not going into such a prevent defense to close out a game.
  • Buff is a monster…

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

For Winnipeg: Patrik Laine – As mentioned a few times in our preview and then during the game tonight, he loves playing the Stars. Two more goals against Dallas tonight. Honorable mentions to Dustin Byfuglien for his three assist night and Ehlers for a goal and a pair of assists as well.
For Dallas: Tyler Seguin – As evidenced by his snipe job on the Stars second goal, you just can’t give Tyler any time or space with the puck and you certainly can’t let him be even slightly alone in the slot area.

NEXT FLIGHT

This was the last game before the NHL Trade Deadline, so we could have a few new Jets players to greet when they get back to Winnipeg and host the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.
