The Jets effort overall was much better today than it was on Friday, but Henrik Lundqvist is still Henrik Lundqvist and the king of New York made a bit of a statement on Sunday in a 3-1 win over Winnipeg that the Rangers should not counted out for the season… At least not yet.

TALKING POINTS

  • The offside review / rule is almost as stupid as goalie interference is right now. The Jets being offside has so very little to do with the goal Tyler Myers scored to lead the game off, but yet because it’s a black and white rule and because coaches are free to challenge it, it gets wiped out.
  • I have to check the numbers, but that may be the third time this season the Jets have been denied a goal due to a video review, only to have the Jets score seconds later. It’s too bad the Jets couldn’t do it twice in one night as they had a second goal called back, but for a more legitimate reason as Scheifele’s stick was way too high.
  • Hellebuyck vs Lundqvist sure as heck didn’t disappoint. Great goaltending at both ends of the rink.
  • So Cody McLeod hits Tobias Enstrom very late in the corner which causes Enstrom to go to the dressing room. Because of “hockey reasons” Matt Hendricks fights McLeod and in the process gets a cut above the eye whole McLeod ends up with a busted nose…. HOCKEY!
  • Mark Scheifele looked a little more comfortable in his second game back. Had an assist and was a little more on the mark with his passing.
  • Mats Zuccarello would looks GREAT in a Jets uniform wouldn’t he? Just sayin..

HOW DID THEY CORSI?

Matchups are limited to 5-on-5 situations. Tile size is scaled by Time On Ice and colour is scaled by adjusted Expected Goals differential. Blue represents a home team advantage and red represents a road team advantage.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

For Winnipeg: Connor Hellebuyck – Fantastic work making 25 saves. He kept the Jets in the game in the second period and it took a bit of a wild deflected shot in the third period to beat him.
For New York: Henrik Lundqvist – 36 saves, many of them of the acrobatic type. The Rangers may want to re-think that whole trading everybody and rebuilding idea if he’s going to start getting on a role like this.

NEXT FLIGHT

The Jets get another Metropolitan team visiting them as the division leading Washington Capitals make their one and only trip to Winnipeg on Tuesday.
