JNGD.53 Instant Recap: Jets Finally Bury The Avalanche
The final score reads 2-0 for the Winnipeg Jets over the Colorado Avalanche, but really the score could have been so much larger in favor of the Jets. The Jets are the better team in the standings and unlike the first time against the Avs this season, they played a full game that demonstrated that they are the better team.
TALKING POINTS
- Yes, Laine’s shot is deadly. It’s quick. It’s heavy. Blah, blah blah. We need to start making a not of how good Blake Wheeler’s passing has been to find him repeatedly across the ice on the power play like he has been doing. It’s the toughest pass to make even with the man advantage and Wheeler makes it with more regularity than you would think one should.
- Nik Ehlers could be on a breakaway on an empty net and the puck would still somehow stay out.
- Case in point: He did score on an empty net tonight, but an Avalanche player was in front of him trying to defend it. See? He needs a real challenge…
- What are we ever going to do without Matt Hendricks?!?!
- Fifth shutout for Connor Hellebuyck this season. He wasn’t challenged greatly and as always had good defense in front of him. When the Jets limit high danger scoring chances like they did tonight, Connor is going to make a strong bid at putting up a goose egg.

HOW DID THEY CORSI?
Matchups are limited to 5-on-5 situations. Tile size is scaled by Time On Ice and colour is scaled by adjusted Expected Goals differential. Blue represents a home team advantage and red represents a road team advantage.
PLAYERS OF THE GAME
For Winnipeg: Blake Wheeler – A couple of assists and was leading the way with a ton of hustle and as mentioned, his passing should be talked about in the same hushed tones as Laine’s shot is when they have the man advantage.
For Colorado: Carl Soderberg – I mean I suppose if I have to pick one of the Colorado players, then I guess Soderberg was the least worst of the Avs? Led the Avs in shots and didn’t look completely silly against the Jets forwards.
NEXT FLIGHT
The Jets will get a couple of days between games now as they’ll be off tomorrow and practicing Monday and then play the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday.
