JNGD.52 Flight Plan: Vegas In The Peg

On Tuesday it was the East (and NHL) leading Tampa Bay Lightning that paid a visit to Winnipeg, now it’s the West leading Vegas Golden Knights that have brought their act to Bell MTS Place.

Vegas Golden Knights (33-12-4)
@
Winnipeg Jets (30-13-8)

February 1, 2018 – Puck drop: 7:00 PM CST
Bell MTS Place – Winnipeg, MB.
TV: TSN3 – Radio: TSN 1290

Recently for the Jets…

The Jets won their seventh straight at home and in the process tied their franchise record for most wins on home ice in one season with that 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. They currently have one of the best home records this season at 18-3-1 (the only team with a better home record of course is Vegas with a 19-3-2 record). Blake Wheeler for what it’s worth has had a point in each of those last seven wins at home for the Jets and has 35 points (nine goals, 26 assists) in the 22 games played at Bell MTS Place.

Recently for the Golden Knights…

Vegas brought a bit of a magic act with them on the road for the first game of their six game road trip by scoring three goals within the final two minutes to come from behind and stun the Calgary Flames with a 4-2 win. With that win, they tied the 93-94 Ducks and Panthers for most wins in a season by an expansion club and will look to set the record tonight in Winnipeg. The Knights have won four of their last six and earned a OT point in a fifth game.  Tonight also marks the first half of a back to back set as they’ll head to Minnesota next to take on the Wild on Friday.

Recently between both teams…

The Knights first visit to Winnipeg back on December 1 was pretty miserable from the Vegas perspective as the Jets dropped them by a 7-4 score. The teams are 1-1-0 against each other – the Jets having lost in Vegas back on November 10 – and if there is one player that the Knights would like to keep in check this time, it’s Patrick Laine who had four points (two goals, two assists) against Vegas. Connor Hellebuyck will likely get the start against Vegas tonight and looks to improve his numbers against them tonight as he has an .830 save percentage and a 5.42 GAA against the Knights.

Gameday Prediction

Vegas didn’t look all that strong against the Flames and were bailed out at the last moment by a pair of mistakes. Vegas is maybe one of the best clubs at exposing a team’s mistakes and turning them into goals, but the Jets have also been quite good at covering up what mistakes they make. This should be a very entertaining contest that the Jets win 5-3
