Back on the ice and back in the win column!
The Jets finally got a much needed shootout victory and at the same time stopped the Calgary Flames winning streak at seven with a 2-1 shootout win in Calgary.
Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves and two extra in the shotoout to pick up the two points in the standings which – for now anyway, things could change tonight – vaults the Jets back into first place in the Central division.

SCORING SUMMARY

GIF RECAP

HOW DID THEY CORSI?

Matchups are limited to 5-on-5 situations. Tile size is scaled by Time On Ice and colour is scaled by adjusted Expected Goals differential. Blue represents a home team advantage and red represents a road team advantage.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

For Winnipeg: Nik Ehlers – Finished with one assist and was flying all over the ice as he is want to do most games, made a nice play to Little who took the shot that Perreault ended up tipping. You could tell his speed was giving the Flames all kinds of fits the entire game.
For Calgary: Dougie Hamilton – Wasn’t rewarded with any points, but he is so good at both ends of the ice. He can make plays, generate offense and gets a lot of shots, but also is near shut-down levels of defense in his own end.

TALKING POINTS

  • I REPEAT: THEY FINALLY WON AN EXTRA TIME /  SHOOTOUT GAME!! HOORAY!!
  • Oh… Right, forgot about that… Well still… SHOOTOUT WIN!! HOORAY!!!
  • Is it fair to say that the Jets had a much better pace to this game than they did the previous two on the road before the break? Personally I felt they were a much faster club which plays to their strengths.
  • Anyone else SUPER tired of hearing about Mike Smith’s so-called puck handling ability? We get it Greg Millen, now enough already.
  • I’d probably feel better about Tyler Myers defending if he didn’t seem so eager to drop to a knee or slide to block a shot or potential pass. Stay on your feet big man!
  • The shootout is so anti-climactic after intense 3 on 3 overtime isn’t it? It almost feels like a huge let down. Maybe it’s time for the NHL to look into 10 minute 3 on 3 OT and then just be ok with a tie at the end because honestly, who will bitch about a tie after seeing ten minutes of 3 on 3 overtime hockey?!

NEXT FLIGHT

Jets will catch an early evening flight back home and get ready to host the Vancouver Canucks (who themselves will be making the overnight trip from Edmonton) for an early Sunday evening game at Bell MTS Place tomorrow night.
