For the first time this season, the Jets have been shutout. It comes against the Sharks, where Jones stopped 38 shots. The Jets also lost Steve Mason in the process. He took a shot off the mask in the first period and didn’t come out for the second period. It was announced he had an upper body injury. If it’s a few games, we could see a call up of either Comrie or Hutchinson. If Hutchinson is recalled on an emergency basis, he wouldn’t need to clear waivers when it’s time for him to return to the Moose.
At the end of the second period, we were treated with a non-stop usage of the line blender by Paul Maurice, as he was trying to spark some offence. The biggest problems came with special teams. The Jets faced a disgustingly good penalty kill from the Sharks, forcing them to go 0 for 3 on the powerplay. The Jets were 1 for 2 on the penalty kill, thus intensifying the special teams problems.
Overall, it wasn’t the greatest game the Jets have played this season, but it wasn’t the worst. Once you factor in that they were playing the second half of a back to back, it’s easier to swallow the loss. All in all, the road trip was better than expected and with the next game being at home, it’s best to just look forward.
