This week the Jets are spending their time in America’s Southwest as they embark on a road swing for three games which starts off tonight in Dallas against their division rivals.

It’s the second meeting within the past week for both teams and if the first game on Thursday was any indication, we could be in for a spirited game as both teams had some festering bad blood between them.

One would have thought that they had plenty of firepower to put away a team struggling to score goals such as the Montreal Canadiens had been, but that wasn’t the case on Saturday night as the Jets scored four, including two in the third to take a 4-2 lead, but couldn’t close the deal as the Habs scored twice as well in the third period to tie things up, and then ended up winning in overtime thanks to a Max Pacioretty game-winning goal. The OT loss provided the Jets with loser point and helped extend their streak of at least earning a point in the standings to six games, but it was hard not to feel disappointed at the result. The Jets power play was on fire in that game going a perfect three for three, but the real issue was the Jets shorthanded play short-circuited that effort by giving up three goals on the six times they were killing penalties.

After the Stars left Winnipeg for home last week, they faced off against the Buffalo Sabres, pummeled them early and often and cruised to a 5-1 victory. They fired off four goals within the first 13 minutes of play and chased away Sabres goalie Robin Lehner. They added one more goal late in the second to salt away the win. Backup goalie Kari Lehtonen carried the load for the Stars in that game stopping 27 of 28 shots faced as he helped Ben Bishop get the night off. (Possibly to recover from the devastating hit Kyle Connor gave him last Thursday. *eyeroll emoji*) The Stars power play was also perfect on Saturday night, although it didn’t have nearly as much work as the Jets did only having the man advantage one time.

Back on November 2, the Jets were helped along by a Mark Scheifele hat trick and another solid effort from the power play to take the win by a 5-2 score. The game was a spirited and chippy affair between the two teams, although not as penalty filled as one would have thought and the Jets managed to go the entire game without being short handed at all, which given their issues with the penalty kill and the fact the Stars boast a very good power play group (currently tops in the NHL with 32.5%) was a very good thing for Winnipeg. The Jets did have their first two fights of the season during the game including a scrap between Dustin Byfuglien and Stars captain Jamie Benn. Upon arriving at the arena in Dallas this morning, Byfuglien was again greeted by the Stars captain:

The Stars are 5 and 1 at home right now and while the Jets got away with some chippy play at home against this club back last Thursday, it’s a little bit different on the road. The Jets won’t be able to avoid the Stars power play forever and when they go up against it, it’ll take them out tonight. Stars win 4-1.
