JN FlightPlan: Jets Look To Finally Earn A Win At Home On Sunday

Sundays haven’t exactly been the kindest to the Winnipeg Jets this season as the club has gone 0 for 2 on “Hometown Hockey” and tonight could be another tough one as @Connor McDavid, @James Neal and the surprisingly good Edmonton Oilers pay a visit to BMTSP and take on a Jets team that has just one win at home in four tries.

Last Oilers Game

It was a bit of a goaltending duel as @Mikko Koskinen and @Jonathan Bernier had strong performances in goal, while the Oilers were able to get a 2-0 lead before hanging on in the final 10 minutes of the game to earn a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

Fun Oilers Facts…

  • Neal scored his NHL-leading ninth goal of the season on against Detroit. He already has two more goals than he had in 2018-19.
  • @Leon Draisaitl (6G, 10A – 16PTS) and McDavid (5G, 12A – 17PTS) have become the first set of teammates to record 15+ points through the first seven games of the season since @Mario Lemieux and @Jaromir Jagr in 1995-96 with Pittsburgh.
  • Edmonton set an NHL record with five consecutive come-from-behind win to start the season.
  • INJURY REPORT: @Joel Persson (Concussion), @Joakim Nygard (Ribs – On IR), @Adam Larsson (Leg – On LTIR)
  • MILESTONE WATCH: Tonight will be @Kris Russel’s 800th NHL game. @Markus Granlund is three points away from 100 career NHL points.

What OilersNation is Saying…

The Oilers have been uneven and imperfect along the way, as all teams are, under coach Dave Tippett. He’s been the first to point that out, as you’d expect. With a new group of players and a new coach, it’s going to take awhile for everybody to get on the same page consistently — for Tippett and fans and the players themselves to figure out how this is going to look.
The bottom line is they’re 7-1-0. After years and years where the learning curve included loss after loss after loss, of looking for silver linings after defeats and fans being told to be patient, the Oilers aren’t only putting the pieces together and learning as they go, they’re winning as they go. The points are in the bank and that beats the hell out of any consolation prize.

Last Jets Game

The game against the Islanders was a marked improvement from their “efforts” against Pittsburgh and Arizona, but the Winnipeg Jets still dropped a third straight contest at home, falling to the Isles 2-1.

Fun Jets Facts…

  • The Jets are leading the NHL in fewest penalty minutes per game with an average of just 3.8 penalty minutes. Over the last six seasons the Jets have reduced their average penalty minutes, with their previous low being 8.5 minutes per game in 2017-18.
  • In the 2019 calendar year, the Jets are 13-9-2 on home ice, but have lost six of their past seven home games dating back to last season.
  • Head coach Paul Maurice is still one victory away from 700 wins.
  • The Jets are undefeated in regulation in their past six games against the Oilers (5-0-1)  and have outscored Edmonton 27-17 in those six games.
  • INJURY REPORT: @Nathan Beaulieu (upper body – IR), @Mark Letestu (upper body – IR), @Anthony Bitetto (lower body)
  • MILESTONE WATCH: @Mathieu Perreault needs one point to reach 200 as a member of the Jets.

What We’re Saying…

As mentioned the Jets do get a boost with Little back in the lineup after having missed the first nine games with a concussion suffered in the preseason. While the line of Kyle ConnorAndrew Copp and Nikolaj Ehlers has been outstanding and shouldn’t be messed with, it’s likely that Little will center that second line between Ehlers and KC, while Copp dips to the third line with Jack Roslovic and Adam Lowry.
