Last Kings Game

The Kings got plenty of shots and had their chances through the entire game, but it was the San Jose Sharks that struck early and often to get out to a 3-0 lead and then letting @Martin Jones backstop them to a 4-1 win over the Kings.

Fun Kings Facts…

  • Kings forward @Jeff Carter skated in his 1,000th game on Nov. 16 against Vegas. It marked his 500th game as a King.
  • For the first time in franchise history, the Kings had every player who played in the game, including the goaltender (Jack Campbell) register a shot on goal, Oct. 17 vs. BUF. Campbell is also just the second goaltender in team history to record a shot on goal (Kelly Hrudey registered a shot on goal March 18, 1990).
  • Anze Kopitar is three points away from tying Wayne Gretzky (918) for fourth on the Kings all-time points list.
  • The Kings rank third in the league in shots per game (34.7) and tied for first in shots against per game (28.2).
  • Los Angeles are 1-4 SU in their last 5 games against an opponent in the West conference. – from our friends at OddsShark.com

What They’re Saying…

It’s very interesting that two summers ago the Kings were all in on the @Ilya Kovalchuk Sweepstakes but then realized that the Russian winger is beyond his prime and is really only good as a power play specialist. Except then none of the three coaches that Los Angeles has had in the last two seasons have known what to do with him either on special teams or at even strength. It’s frustrating that the six million dollar man isn’t scoring goals (then again, no one on this roster currently is).

Last Jets Game

Yet another complete team effort for the Jets as they got early goals in the second and third periods and let Anaheim constantly work themselves into penalty trouble to ease into a 3-0 victory over the Ducks. Connor Hellebuyck made 24 saves for his second shutout of the season.

Fun Jets Facts…

  • The Jets improved to an NHL-best 11-2-0 when being outshot this season with yesterday’s win. The’ve been outshot in seven consecutive games but have gone 6-1-0 in that stretch. Interestingly enough, Winnipeg is 5-7-1 when they are the ones outshooting their opponents.
  • The Jets are 6-3-0 against the Pacific Division this season after going 16-6-2 against Pacific Division opponents last season, which was the most wins against the Pacific by a team outside the division. Winnipeg is on a 31-10-4 run in their past 45 games versus the Pacific.
  • Hellebuyck has 16 career shutouts, which is one behind Ondrej Pavelec’s franchise record of 17.

What We’re Saying…

The Los Angeles Kings are 6-1-1 at home when they score first in the game, and they are a perfect 6-0-0 when they have the lead after one. Conversely they are 2-4-1 when the opposition scores the first goal and are a combined 2-5-1 when they are tied or trailing after the first 20 minutes of play in Staples Center.
