JN Flight Plan #60: Chicago Blackhawks @ Winnipeg Jets
Didn’t we just do this a week ago?
Sure enough, a week after the Jets welcomed the Chicago Blackhawks into BMTS and survived a weak start to beat the Hawks 5-2, the Jets will look to do the same thing tonight but perhaps without the sluggish start. The Hawks have had a very strange road trip through Western Canada as they stumbled in Winnipeg, looked flat in a loss against Edmonton, had a great effort doing everything but actually scoring in Vancouver and then not having as good a game in Calgary but being bailed out by shoddy Flames goaltending.

Last Blackhawks Game
The game was tied 2-2 after the first period of play, but then David Rittich and the Calgary Flames sprung a leak and the Chicago Blackhawks were able to put up four goals in the second period and coast to an 8-4 win over the Flames on Saturday night.

Fun Hawks Facts…
- The fun part of scoring eight goals in a game? Almost everyone gets a point! Thirteen Blackhawks players recorded a point in their win Saturday over the Flames including five players with two or more points.
- @Jonathan Toews’ goal 30 seconds into last night’s game was the fifth time the Blackhawks scored in the first minute of a game this season – they also did it to the Jets a week ago – They are tied for the NHL lead for most goals by a team in the first minute of the game.
- Patrick Kane (626) recorded two assists on Feb. 11 to pass Phil Housley (625) for the most assists ever recorded by a US-born player within their first 13 career NHL seasons.
- @Duncan Keith is on the verge of a bunch of milestones. He’s one goal away from 100 for his NHL career, 1 assist away from 500 career helpers and 2 points for 600 career points.
What They’re Saying…
You may have been surprised when you woke up and saw the Hawks score from last night (because I’m fairly confident you weren’t staying up late to see it–only losers like myself, Sam, Matt, and about four other cretins would actually spend a Saturday night that way). And you probably thought, wow, maybe some shaky defense but that’s a dominant offensive performance. The thing is, though, it wasn’t. The score doesn’t really reflect the game itself, but please understand I’m not complaining. I’m just scratching my head, and have been for over 12 hours now. I suppose that after getting shut out on a bazillion shots by Vancouver, a correction was due and boy did it happen. But it didn’t inspire the confidence that you would think an 8-goal performance would.

Last Jets Game
The Jets had an outstanding effort – for about a minute in the second period and then six entire minutes in the third period. Otherwise is was a surprisingly poor effort from the local side as they fell 3-2 to the San Jose Sharks.

Fun Jets Facts…
- The Jets are 8-3-0 in their past 11 games against the Blackhawks. Winnipeg has also outshot Chicago in each of the past six meetings.
- The Jets loss on Friday was the first time this season in 20 games that they lost when leading after the second period. They are now 19-1-0 this season when leading after the second period.
- @Blake Wheeler had a goal and an assist on Friday to reach 39 points (13G, 26A) in his past 36 games. He hasn’t gone consecutive games without a point since Nov. 19-21. Blake leads the Jets in scoring against the Blackhawks with 30 points (10G, 20A) in 36 career games.
What We’re Saying…
The Winnipeg Jets found it tough to score against San Jose on Friday night and one of the reasons was due to the lack of shots. Winnipeg was severely out-shot throughout the night, especially at five on five, with most of their opportunities coming with the man-advantage. The Jets will need to get many more pucks towards the net tonight if they want a chance to win.
