JN Flight Plan #48: Winnipeg Jets vs Chicago Blackhawks
The start of a three game road trip this week has the Winnipeg Jets in Chicago to take on the Blackhawks in what could be a big night. Patrick Kane is a point away from 1000 for his NHL career and a Chicago win in regulation pulls them even with the Jets in the standings (although to Winnipeg’s benefit, they do have a game in hand)
It would be nice to see the Jets play the part of a rude guest by denying both of those things and put away the memory of that awful game against Tampa Bay from Friday night.

Last Blackhawks Game
Chicago’s last stop of their slightly more eastern road trip concluded with a memorable night in Toronto where they pounced early and often on the Maple Leafs with four first period goals and cruised to a 6-2 victory.

Fun Hawks Facts…
- The Blackhawks are on a four-game winning streak, tied for the longest winning streak the club has had this season
- @Dominik Kubalik notched two goals against Toronto, reaching 20 goals on the season. Kubalik became the sixth Blackhawk to debut with the team and score 20 career goals before his 50th game.
- Patrick Kane is a single point away from 1becoming the 90th NHL player to reach 1,000 points and the fourth Blackhawks player to reach the mark.
- Chicago is 8-1-0 on the second game of back to back sets.
What They’re Saying…
“It’s been special,” Blackhawks captain @Jonathan Toews said. “At the end of the day it’s not easy, it’s a lot of hard work. A lot of teammates and friends have come through this locker room and left to play for other teams or retire — there’s always a different scenario — but I’m pretty thankful for what I’ve been able to be a part of. For me, Chicago has become a home. You’re around the city, people are thanking you for the championships and that will never get old. Great memories and obviously a pretty special time when were able to make those Cup runs.”
Ultimately the later should be the answer for the Chicago Blackhawks with their uneven play and a laundry list of injuries they might want to look into being sellers themselves but do they have the assets to truly help the future of the organization?
Last Jets Game
Nope. Don’t even think about it. Don’t put yourself through that pain. Watch the best of Futurama’s Bender B. Rodriguez instead…

Fun Jets Facts…
- Winnipeg’s loss to the Blackhawks last month ended its six-game winning streak against Chicago. The Jets are 7-2-0 in their past nine games against the Blackhawks which includes a 4-0 regular season series sweep against them last season.
- The Jets are 7-5-2 against fellow Central Division teams this season and 16-9-3 against the Western Conference.
- Winnipeg ranks ninth in the NHL in penalty kill percentage in January at 87%.
What We’re Saying…
On the other hand, Copp’s ability to work the puck along the walls will be great alongside Scheifele’s play down low. Copp and Scheifele should be able to get a nice cycle game going and keep possession of the puck for long stretches at a time. Add in Ehlers’ speed and finishing ability and you have another dangerous line.
