It’s not quite NHL playoff hockey in May or even AHL level playoffs in the spring, but Jets fans still have a chance to see a handful of Jets players as they play in the IIHF World Championships taking part this year in Cologne, Germany and Paris, France.

Mark Scheifele, Josh Morrissey, and Eric Comrie are all wearing the beloved red and white of Canada. Jacob Trouba, Andrew Copp, and Connor Hellebuyck make up another trio of Jets who are representing Team USA. Last but not least everyone’s favorite Great Dane, Nik Ehlers is skating for Denmark.

Here, we’ll recap the daily exploits of their teams and their individual performances:

For the first half of this game, it looked like Denmark was at least going to hang a bit with Team USA, but Connor Hellebuyck made a handful of key saves that kept Denmark from either tying the game or getting within a goal, and Clayton Keller’s hat trick did in the Danes in a 7-2 US win.

Nik Ehlers did pick up an assist in the first period after Morten Madsen hammered home an Ehlers rebound, but two minutes later he took a two minute “checking to the head/neck area” penalty which under international rules comes with a ten minute misconduct.

On the US side, both Jacob Trouba and Andrew Copp were held off the box score. The US did dial back the minutes on both Trouba and Noah Hanifin. Trouba finished with 17:14 ice time and three shots on goal.

Team USA evens their record to 1-1 and their next game is Monday against Sweden. Denmark sits at 0-2 and gets a day off before taking on Slovakia on Tuesday.

Despite having the support of fans who knew just as much as anyone that the game was a massive mismatch, Slovenia did not pose much of a challenge to Team Canada early Sunday morning as Canada scored three in the first period, three in the second and coasted to a 7-2 win.

Mark Scheifele and Josh Morrisey were both held off the score sheet, but Scheifele did manage to get four shots on goal.

Canada is now 2-0 and plays Belarus on Monday.
