Jets Sign Andrew Copp To A Two Year Deal

There isn’t much work left to be done in terms of finalizing the roster heading into training camp, but the Jets took care of one more piece of business on Wednesday afternoon by signing forward Andrew Copp to a 2 year deal worth 2 million. The club has not yet confirmed.
The signing of Copp means the Jets have two more restricted free agent to take care of, that being goalie Connor Hellebuyck and forward JC Lipon.
The Jets would maybe be also wise to get a head start on next season as the club has 16 pending RFAs for next summer including Nik Ehlers, Adam Lowry, Jacob Trouba, Josh Morrissey and Eric Comrie.
(Note, Mr. Dreger quickly corrected himself in a follow up tweet and mentioned that the second year is $1.1 million.. We’ll forgive this transgression as it is the summer and it’s probably hard to tweet with a phone in one hand and a margarita in another)
The 23 year old Copp played in 64 games with the Jets last season, picking up 9 goals and 17 points. As was pointed out in Garret Hohl’s look back on his season, he saw a lot more time with top forwards which may have boosted his numbers slightly, and it’s likely that the best role he fits into is that of a fourth line center.
The one-way deal also means that the Jets have hopes of him sticking with the roster and not needing time in the AHL has he spent 8 games with them last year. Any thoughts of sending him down though would no reqquire him to clear waivers.
